Foreman for sure. He had more power, better chin, was more proven at the world level, etc., the only advantage I give Liston is his pretty good jab, but that wouldnīt be enough. I say Foreman by midround TKO...

Tough one to call. Foreman seemed to "load" up more on his punches
whereas Liston boxed and waited for openings more. I think that the 1959-1960 version of Sonny Liston would be able to survive the early rounds and then come on to stop Foreman in the later rounds. I was impressed with Liston's ability to shake off Cleveland Williams' power punches and then KO Williams. But you canīt compare the totally overrated Williams with a proven powerpuncher like Foreman... |

I would favor Liston here. He is the better technical fighter and has the better jab. I see it being an all out slugfest but Liston's jab and superior stamina comes into play after 4-5 rounds and once he stops Foreman late. The first 4-5 rounds would be all out with both being seriously hurt.

Hi Luigi,
I understand your argument about Williams, but I'm mainly talking about how Liston withstood Williams' attack. Liston had a tight defense in those fights and set up his punches well. Also, Liston beat a fighter by the name of Mike DeJohn. DeJohn was a very good puncher too, yet Sonny took him apart. A prime Sonny did well against punchers. That jab was very effective against guys that moved forward. BTW, is Francesco Pianeta fighting again soon? I have been following his career. Yeah, good arguments, DeJohn and Williams were good punchers, but a Foreman is one or 2 leagues above power-wise. But thatīs all speculation, for me Foreman would be clearly the favourite... Pianeta, well, Iīm a bit disappointing about him, he had in his last fights some close fights, IMO heīs mentally still a bit weak, he has the power, chin, stamina, managment, etc. to make some noise, but with that attitude... I donīt know, his next fight isnīt planned yet... did you see him fight yet? |

Hi Luigi,
No I have not seen Pianeta fight yet. Maybe he will start to really fight tougher once he gains experience and has some more wins under his belt. What part of Italy are you from? Are the Italian women as beautiful as everybody says. I am of Italian extraction, though I have not visited Italy yet. My wife visited Italy when she was a child. She says that Italy is so beautiful and full of history. Grebfan9 [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Quote:

I have seen Pianeta yet, heīs not the big deal IMO, but it could be enough for the today pretty limited HW division! Iīm from Puglia (a city named Foggia), thatīs in Southern Italy. Where is your family from? For me personally, the Italian women are very pretty in general, but you know, everywhere are beatiful girls... Last edited by Asterion; 07-18-2006 at 07:12 PM. |

Depends, partly on which Foreman we're talking about.
Either Foreman KO in 1-4 or Liston UD/TKO/KO in 5-12. Liston had a good chin and an amazing jab, and 70s Foreman knew nothing as than the bum rush. That jab, Liston's defence, and Liston's chin would most likely take him out of the early rounds, and he has the power and technique to start capitalizing once Big George starts to fade (which would be early). Always the chance for Foreman KO, but it peaks after about round 3. |
