I love being a southpaw. Best advice is to master the jab.

granted I have never fought a southpaw but how would that help? Wouldn't they want a good left hook and right hand?

Keep stepping to the left to neutralise his left hand.

When he jabs, parry with your right and step in with a big right hand.

Slip the jab to the left and throw body hooks with you left.

etc. etc.

I sparred a soutpaw the other day and I landed a straight right to his bottom rib that hurt him real bad. Is a peach of a shot.

some tips i learnt today

Just watched Pacquiao vs marquez 1 and noticed soemthign very important.

When you box a southpaw your distance and range is slightly altered. Your jab does not give you the same reflection of your distance as it does when boxing an orthodox opponent. You have to alter every punch slightly to adjust to the variation of your opponents distance and this is where good footwork is necessary, as balance is essential. In fact this altered range is the most difficult aspect to deal with, with southpaws IMO.

What Marquez did superbly was stayed balanced. He altered his range towards Pacquiao by slightly leaning back but keeping a wide-ish base and as Pacquiao came in with his distance slightly altered, Marquez was able to lean forwards again and land his right hand on the on rushing Pacquiao.

Another thing Marquez did well was to keep his left foot INSIDE Pacquiao's left foot and then fire his jab upon which he stepped his foot on the outside of Pacquiao's allowing him to set up his right hand whilst working of the jab. Cunning little trick.

Theres a million tips out there for orthodox but one I like is look at a mirror. You are looking at a southpaw. It's a good way to get some ideas on how to approach an attack and what you might run into without getting hit learning the process.

you just need experience, after a while its easy to adjust once you get used to thier style, their just like us orthodox folk (although i did get stopped in my last fight by a southpaw, the nerve gas might be a good idea)

Take care of the distance. End of. The rest is standard that you would do against any fighter. Watch out for this punch, that punch. Throw this punch, that punch. The main thing is distance.

Indeed. Distance and angles, both incoming and outgoing.

I love southpaws!

My calm step to the left with my left hook afterwards always gets the ****ers! sometimes I weave under as I step to the left which generates even more power when I decide to throw my it. Once you've masterd it you can load up with as much power as you want because they're not in a position to hit you, plus you can double up or triple up on the hook (to either head or body) or even throw a right hook afterwards in the combo which will generate even more power if you use the momentum right.... plus they won't even see it coming because you're at such a funny angle, which will cause extra damage in itself.

Yeah, I love a southpaw me.

Don't give them any respect. Just go out there and kill the em. They are used to getting to much respect for being a southpaw. I you are like "I don't ****ing care" it will give them something to think about.
