Default 2010 National Silver Gloves Videos (40+)

This past Saturday concluded the National Silver Gloves Tournament in Independence, Missouri. Below are some links to the more than 40 bouts that I recorded showcasing the best 10-15 years old boxers in the United States. As the only advancing tournament for this age group, all champions are ranked #1 in the United States in their respective divisions.

The National Silver Gloves is the culmination of a three-month tournament that is comprised of three legs of boxing competitions for boxers between the ages of 10 and 15 years old. There are three age divisions in the Silver Gloves, which are then broken down by weight: the 10 and 11-years old, the 12 and 13-year-old and the 14 and 15-year-old. The first leg is the local or state tournament. For example in the Washington, DC area, the local Silver Gloves tournament included boxers from DC, Maryland and Delaware. Next, the local champions travel to their respective regional tournaments (see below regional breakdown) to compete against other local or state champions and determine who will advance to the National Silver Gloves Championships--where all 8 regional champions will face each other.

Washington, DC belongs to Region 3 and our regional tournament was held in Wilmington, North Carolina this year. There, boxers competed against the state champions from North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, West Virginia, Virginia and Alabama. After winning the regionals, all regional champions traveled to Independence, Missouri and faced the other 7 regional champions to determine who is the #1 boxer in the United States in their respective divisions.

Of special note that the boxer in the video discussed in this thread, Zimmie Dickinson: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] won his 3rd consecutive National Silver Gloves title and he is still just 12-years-old. Enjoy all the videos and please ---your feedback is welcome.

Below are the breakdown of the 8 different Regions:

Region 1- Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Conneticut, New York, New Jersey
Region 2-Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky
Region 3-West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland/D.C./Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama
Region 4-Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota
Region 5-Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas
Region 6-Oklahama, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee
Region 7-Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, Washington
Region 8-California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico

Thank you. It's fun to get these kids some recognition because they work unbelievably hard in the gym year round.

I like the Gary Russells. Not sure if they've turned pro yet but great heart and athleticism.

What's funny is that we were just talking about southpaws in the amateurs and how there are so many southpaws these days that it really isn't as big of an advantage or problem for amateurs these days. I think ten years ago and beyond, it was a really problem for conventional fighters. We have 3 convention and 1 southpaw, but we don't really spend any time training our boxers to do anything different. They spar and compete against southpaws regularly so they just get more used to it.

Yes, Zimmie won again this year!! That's 3 years straight in 3 attempts. He was at the bottom of the bracket (12 years old in the 12/13 age bracket), so I'm proud of him.

BTW, Tez won his first bout at the Under-19s in Cincinnati. There are only 7 boxers at 152!! He boxes again Thursday to get into Friday's final. Winners go to Youth Worlds in France and that is the ONLY qualifying tournmanet for the World Youth Olympics in Singapore. Needless to say this is a huge opportunity. Our Golden Gloves start up this month too.

Damn. This is a big chance for Tez. Start to get some notice and recognition from the people at USAB.

Great question. I'm going to list my favorites here w/ links to their bouts that I got from last week, but I may have other video on these kids.

I'll start with the youngsters (Click on the matchup for link to video)

1) Nico Hernandez vs. Jordan White[/url] 12/13-year old 75lbs .Hernandez out of Wichita, KS is a 3-time (now 4-time) National Silver Gloves Champions. He won last year at 65lbs. White is the 2009 defending 65lbs. champion in the 10/11-year old division, this was a great matchup:

2) I always enjoy watching Aaron and Ryan is a great young boxer too.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Hrrn6Hqwjo"] 10/11-year old 75lbs. Ryan Garcia vs. Aaron Morales[/ame]

3)12/13-year old 80lbs. Zimmie Dickinson (vs. Jose Solorio) - This is Zimmie's 3rd Silver Gloves title in 3 years. He has faced 17 boxers over that span and is a true boxer, who has some of the best footwork out there.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ca76ZAyyhXQ[/ame]

4) Julien was named Outstanding Boxer for his age division. He is a boxer/puncher and in this bout he goes up against Ruben Ozuna who puts amazing pressure on opponents and just simply doesn't stop coming forward w/ punches. Good matchup and Julien is definitely one to watch.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBvJz1q_mp8"]Julien Rodriguez vs. Ruben Ozuna - 14/15 125lbs. [/ame]

5)Abraham Zamora vs. Mario Barrios 14/15 90lbs. - boxing out of Coachella, CA Zamora is a very slick boxer who I enjoy watching and who you will definitely hear from in the near and distant future!!

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvIvsZNTnzY[/ame]

6) Gary Salazar and Marshall Sanchez 14/15 112lbs - both of these boxers are defending champions. Salazar at 112lbs. and Sanchez at 106lbs. This was a highly anticipated matchup and remember BOTH of these names.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGCddV5fn4M"][/ame]

7)Aujee Tyler 14/15-year-old 100lbs - another defending Silver Gloves Champion who is one of the smartest boxers that I know. Always thinking and making adjustments, he is a slick boxer with great counter-punching.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql4aSZZngww[/ame]

8) D'andres Hockerson vs. James Taylor - 14/15 106lbs. Another national champion, who is a good boxer/puncher in Hockerson against James Taylor from Detroit.
