I was just looking at boxrec and saw that Nikolai Valuev fought 4 or 5 fights in QLD and Sydney during the late 90's. Did anybody go to these fights?
Is there any other world champions (current or past) from other countries that fought here early in their careers against our guys? |

I remember him decapitating Sinclair Babb on the KT v Chaves u/card. I dunno if you could find that KO on the net, but it's well worth a look. Babb is probably still concussed. Wayne "Big Truck" Braithwaite fought in Australia a few times earlier on.

The title meant nothing, but it was a good win against Adam Watt early on in his career.
Many great fighters have fought in Australia at some time or another. Tommy Burns, Jack Johnson, Joe Frazier, Archie Moore, Peter Jackson, Jimmy Ellis, Eddie McGoorty off the top of my head. Definitely plenty more. |

He was stuck in no mans land, he was to small for cruiser but to big for light heavy and once the limit went to 200 he was even more out of his depth. I was not suprised he lost the Mormeck, but it was disapointing to see him lose to Jones, though it was a bit of a harsh stoppage. He fought the WBO champ, Enzo, not long ago. I thought he would either KO him early or get ko'd late but it ended up going to rounds, not sure how it panned out. He can still forge a bit of a career at cruiser but I doubt he is getting a title again. |

I actually like the Cruisers. I think it's a fairly competitive division. Jean-Marc Mormeck, who has never been in a bad fight and has partly unified the division faces David Haye. Haye is a pretty exciting fighter IMO. Add to that that the winner is likely to face Enzo Maccarinelli and that's enough to get my interest. Throw in Steve Cunningham, undefeated Marco Huck, Darnell "Ding-a-ling man" Wilson, and the 2 poles Adamek and Wlodarczyk and I don't think the division is too bad actually.
