Default Is it illegal to hit hip-bone?

I think i read somewhere that its illegal to hit the opponents hip bone, yet i cant remember where i read this rule and havent heard of it since, so is it a genuine rule used in boxing today?

Not really if you hit the top of the hip but anything lower is considered a low blow.

Anyway hitting someone in the hip does more damage to you than them.

Before the fight, the ref says "if you hit below here it's low" so anywhere below where the ref said is illegal.

Yes that would be illegal in theory, but you'd get away with a lot of them in practice.

Cannot hit below the navel/belt line. The belt line should be just below the belly button.

I hated having to wear ma shorts over ma navel, or on it, i was 6ft 2 and 60 kg and in general ma trousers were worn on ma hips/bones.

1. It was uncomfy/foreign to me

2. Basically felt like a fud

Always pushed/pulled em down

On topic, i wouldnt say it was illegal, thought the 2-3 cms the waistband can ride up or down your waist could be the difference, ref dependant.

I think it's as worthless as hitting the shoulders to wear someone down. I block with my shoulders on purpose, you could hit them all night. Hip bones turn blue, granted, but I've never been bothered by it in terms of mobility. Not even in 12+ round sparring sessions.

It's also rather low, meaning you'd have to go low yourself or be open for a counter. If you feel a fist connecting to the hip, throw a punch with that side. It'll likely connect (how Mayweather counters liver shots for example, the moment a punch connects to your elbow throw a short right hand or an uppercut).

True.

But Gatti also broke his hand doing it to Micky Ward.

Well it's below the belly button/belt line so it's illegal.

But it's kinda pointless to hit there when guys are wearing fould protectors.
