Is Buster Douglas' win over Tyson the biggest upset ?

A lot of boxing experts say that the Buster Douglas win over Tyson was one of the biggest upsets in boxing history being a 42-1 underdog.

However I kind of disagree with that.

Buster Douglas for 1, was a very good skilled technical boxer.
He had 1 awesome jab, was tall at 6.4 and knew how to use his height and reach..He also possessed 1 awesome uppercut, which ended up ending Tyson's night.. He also had a terrific professional fighting style, very loose , relaxed and non-robotic way of fighting.

There is no way he should have been a 42-1 underdog.. That's just way off..

He also had 2 wins against future world champion Oliver Mcall and former world champion Trevor Berbick at the time he fought Tyson.

I really don't see it as the upset people make it out to be.

I think at the time people really thought Tyson was unbeatable. He just had an aura about him that made people think he couldnt be beat hence such long odds for Douglas to win.

Actually Foreman beating Michael Moore at 45 years of age for the heavyweight championship of the world would be a bigger 1.

The 42-1 odds were just a gimmick issued by some bookies. Hardly any were even taking bets on the fight as Tyson was literally an unbackable favourite.

Douglas did have those wins but he'd also previously quit in his only other attempt at a title against Tony Tucker. He was pretty much unknown and Tyson was still thought of as 'the baddest man on the planet'.

Put it this way, it took me three hours to convince a mate that Tyson had lost.

I'd say its the biggest upset, followed by Tyson-Holyfield I. Who knew Evander had anything left?

to be honest i think its not only the biggest upset in boxing history but also the biggest in sporting history

Tyson was seen as invincible, and Douglas was nobody, it wasn't expected to last a round

Im a Tyson fan and yes this looks like the biggest upset in history

But only because of who tyson was and is

I would like to consider what odds Green would have got for a stoppage within 1:22 seconds of round 1?

Now before you jump down my throat I almost shed a tear when tyson got dropped and was looking for his mouthguard on the floor....I just think a few other fightes need to be thought over.

Im sure the black and white nut huggers will have some as well

Leon Spinks - Ali was a decent upset also. Spinks had only had about 6 pro fights at that stage.

Also Michael Spinks-Larry Holmes in 1985 was a good upset. Spinks, possibly the best light heavy of all time was NOT expected to beat an old yet still dominant Larry Holmes at heavy.

Oh and Khan has gone on to win world titles and has not lost after the Prescott fight including a win over HOF Barrera....so what if the pussy cant take a good head clash

End of the day it was a huge upset and getting bigger buy the fight...and if Khan beates Paulie in a few months this upset will get bigger.

What if Prescott was to keep getting beaten and Khan goes on winning?

Agree but his first win was better IMO
