Default Goddamnit...

Got offered a fight for tomorrow. Bitched out and turned it down.

I don't feel like I'm in good enough shape to fight right now. My skills are ok for someone with no fights, but ideally I'd be fighting at 165 instead of my current weight of 178-180. I haven't ran since November, and my conditioning isn't what I'd like it to be. Also, I smoked on Tuesday and I've been eating basically whatever I want all week. Done alright in sparring and practice (mostly with guys who are 160 though). My best chance in a fight right now would be to bumrush the guy and try to knock him out or break him down with pressure, but to be honest, I don't know if I've got the power to drop a guy who's 180 if he came down from 190-200.

Also, my coach has major wood for the "European Style" of boxing, which basically means you run around the ring and do a lot of footwork while looking to potshot and counter. This goes directly against my natural instincts, physical attributes, and whiteness. I haven't quite nailed down this style yet, and I can't say I enjoy it at all. He'd probably throw in the towel if I disregard his instructions though.

Wise decision, bad decision, I need to train harder and stop being such a *****, other input?

Edit:
Guess what I'm looking for is advice to get a better mindset. I'm not the kind of person who would normally turn down a chance to bash someone up...it was surprising to me when I said no, I almost couldn't believe the words were coming out of my mouth. How do you get your head right?

Don't worry about it. There will be plenty of oppourtunities for fights when you are ready. No sense going in there when you're unprepared and out of shape and getting hurt.

Agreed. If you don't feel prepared then you made the 100% correct decision. There will be plenty of opportunities when you are ready. Even if you were 100% physically ready and not mentally ready, it would be a bad decision to take the fight.
Train hard, get your body and your mind ready and you'll get there.

I like the name of the thread. You would only be weak if you went on and fought, lost and performed below your standard. Then complained and whined about it afterwards with what you think you should've done. You'll have your days, don't agonize over it...

You made the right call. If you got your ass beat around the ring due to bad shape then you'd feel a lot worse than you do now

Thanks for the input everyone.

Got a fight scheduled for March 13 now, 178lb subnovice. Other guy has one fight, which he lost. Apparently, his friends call him 'Moose.' I'm assuming he's shorter than me and not quite in as good of shape (from a picture I saw of him). I'll probably come in at about 173lb (6'0). So I'll probably try to use the European style and then revert to brawling if he keeps catching up with me. Should be a good time
