I don't see how building the biceps could be anything other than counter-productive, personally.

i only weight train twice a week now,on monday back, biceps, triceps, shoulders, forearms. then boxing all week till saturday when i do heavy bench pressing, you just got to remember how important nutrition is though bud plenty protein and carbs are good for training, wouldnt so much do alot of weights on the legs to keep your speed

It seems that very few people on here actually think about what they say.... Think there should be a rule for some people not to be able to contribute.

strength training is very important in boxing, but people get confused between weight lifting/body building/ strength training. Body building is pretty useless in boxing, but strength training, which can include weight lifting, can be beneficial if done properly. Power=strength plus speed, so there's no need to focus on just strength, focus on speed aswell.
Plyometrics is great for boxing training, as it uses the fast-twich fibres which are use when punching, so doing some plyometrics drill (like clapping press ups, burpees etc) are good for boxing.

yes strength training is very important, but maximum strength is the least important, the other strengths...speed strength ,reactive strength, strength endurance and explosive power come first in boxing , what good is maximum strength in the ring if you can apply it fast enough, for or after the first round
and no... power = force X velocity,

strength training is not 'very important', it is only one aspect of all around fitness.

force and velocity is basically strength and speed, and it depends on the type of fighter as to which strength is the most or least important. Maximum strength was probably very important to a fighter like George Foreman.

Indeed. The people lifting loads of weights should include specialised training sessions as well for the other aspects of physical fitness, otherwise they may develop an imbalance

I'm off for my balance training session, got an agility training session after that. Tomorrow is coordination day, I separated my body into parts and train coordination for each part at a time because I think I have a coordination imbalance in my right bicep

Just one quick point regarding this quote. A certain degree of maximum strength is important to be able to maximize explosive strength development. That is not to say that max strength training is more important than every other strength aspect, but it is to say that max strength training should not be neglected in favour of the other strength forms as by doing so, you would be limiting the benefits of your other strength aspects... most notably, explosive strength. Again, include all aspects of strength in a training programme to elicit the most benefits for every facet required in boxing.
