Default Re: Lennox Lewis's best performance ?

Not sure on his best, he was good against Tommy Morrison, even though it was only Morrison, it was Lennox's first fight after losing to McCall, his first fight with Steward, and his first fight at his new bulked up weight.
Pretty much the first fight with his now familiar more conservative jabbing style except he was faster then and had a powerful left hook.

My favourite fight would be the one vs Golota, he just destroyed him in every sense

Also Rahman II is a very good performance and the way he set him up for the KO was sweet, and the finishing combo IMO is one of the heaviest shots ever.

My pick would be Golota fight. After those Golota - Bowe actions, Lennox just goes in and kills the monster. Very impressive, and perfectely executed. Thuis is how a heavyweight fight should look like!

Yep, Golota was still the scary monster then but when Lewis takes a personal dislike to his opponents he is quite brutal on them.
Lewis was on a crusade to clean up all the foul fighters and Don King crap, he never got his dues properly in USA until he was nearly retired

I'm surprised i'm the only one to consider the McCall rematch his finest hour. Not only because it is incredibly difficult to face a man who has knocked you out, but also because he did everything perfect. Jab was fast and snappy, left hooks off the jab, right crosses, skillful footwork, body punching, and that powerful uppercut that lifted McCall a bit up in the air in round 2. It's too bad McCall broke down mentally.

I think that's why most people don't consider it when thinking about his best performance...had McCall not broke down then It'd be up there I reckon.

It was a great performance for what it was anyway, like you said..it takes some courage to get back into the ring with someone who gave you your first loss and KO'd you.

They did because he was not celtc minded i'd say Ruddock,Rahman 2 and Golota he could have done that to a lot more of his opponents imo

I'm a Celtic man, and Strachan was a cunt. He treated the fans with disdain and his teams played miserable football.

Lewis's best performance was Golota. That's heavyweight boxing the way it should be done.

i disagree man, we did damn well in the champions league. top 16 finish with a win over man U. strachan could be a cunt sure and i know he gets some hate for leaving the team the day after we lost the title but at least when he led the team we weren't losing every other week and fighting for 2nd place

His crushing Ruddock and Golata were his most stunning but the McCall rematch was terrific for many reasons ... Rachman 2 as well ..

Hes got a lot of good wins but no defining one. You can take your pick from Ruddock, Morrison, McCall II, Golota, Holyfield II, Tua, Rahman II and Klitschko and not be wrong. Personally I like Lewis vs Golota, he annihilated him.

good call on having no defining win thing. he has a stacked resume and try as he might to turn the tyson win into an epic, symbolic victory it simply wasn't. not of his wins were, just lots of solid work over a decade

On paper, his achievements are pretty solid. From a season-ticket holder perspective, his teams were weak, got worse, and he left us in a horrible state. He started well, but gradually his management crumbled. We only won the title one year coz the filth were preoccupied with Europe and a fixture pile-up. The other years we were facing off with the worst Huns team in history. And the one time they mounted a sustained challenge, they won it, and then he was gone. He preached good football, but never played it. When I think of that era I think of Vennegoor - ie, utter shite. Martin O'Neill's team was far, far stronger.

i have to agree, this is an excellent post about celtic. he left the team in a shit condition (which is why i hate the prick) and though his record was good watching the games he endorsed a lot of ugly, negative football. i still think the high point was that man u win where nakamura was his brilliant best. but the fact is when ****ing rangers took the title he was gone the next ****ing day, slipping out and leaving the team to pick up the piece.

but really vennegoor? like most dutch players he's a workhorse and a pretty solid player. but martin o'neill is probably the best manager i've ever seen in my time (with the possible exception of arsene wegner) and i miss those glory days

on a side note, i'm especially bitter cause i'm flying over for my first ever live game at paradise in a few weeks and we've already pretty much lost the season
