Default How to fight best with long arms?

Hey guys, I started boxing a few months ago and when sparring I realized that I've been throwing my punches, specifically hooks, as if my opponent were much closer to me, and that I need to work better on outfighting, which I'm suited more for. I'm not really that tall, but my reach is pretty far and so I was wondering on any tips for how to get used to the punching distance and technique in application to a heavy bag or pads or an opponent. Any advice is appreciated.

Keep pumping out your jab and bring in straight rights, wouldnt worry as much about hooks.

Thats not what he's asking; look to get full extension on your punches and also work on your foot work.

for the straight right aim to extend your arm so far that your shoulder actually protects the right side of your jaw, get the shoulder as far forward as possible without losing balance

It sounds like I have the same build as you and I find that working on controlling the distance during sparring and practising keeping good blance helped me

Foot work is going to be vital if you want to fight "tall" and keep your distance. Developing a good jab with snap will also be vital but you can't avoid infighting altogether and you shouldn't just stop throwing hooks. I'm a big believer in taking whats given and if your opponent is giving you a hook then you need to throw it at certain point sin a fight. It'll set up other combinations and angles.

But I guess to answer your question...jab, footwork and conditioning are the keys to fighting tall/long.

I'm a tall fight myself and was just wondering what exactly do people mean when they say to use footwork when fighting tall? Does it mean stepping in with the Jab?
