It was very sad to watch. Joe Louis definitely looked a lot older than he actually was.

It was a quality performance by Charles. Louis was past his best, I know Charles regarded it as his biggest win.

Agreed. Its a mis-match. Louis is too old and slow, and can't even hit an aggressive Charles, who's preferred style was more of toe to toe, than stick and move.

Louis was certainly far from his prime but I don't think he was that rusty. He had been involved in numerous exhibitions (often more like real fights) in 1948-1950.

Watch him KO Pat Valentino who had given Charles a fairly tough fight in a championship bout:

TGA, I watched the Pat Valentino fight against Ezzard Charles on DVD. I looked for it on Youtube but couldnt see it. I wanted to post it on here to demonstrate hw skilled Charles was, but I couldnt find it. Do you have it and if you do would you be able to upload it?

Joe Louis said in his autobiography that there were so many openings in this fight, but he didn't have the speed to get there in time. That's what's heartbreaking to me about it. A young Louis would have certainly got the job done.

How do you compare four round bouts with fighting a prime Ezzard Charls for the title over 15 rounds ?

He also had 10 round fights and knocked out Pat Valentino in 8 rounds as seen in the post above. These were more like real fights than exhibitions.

Probably the worst version of Louis ever to fight.
