John Conteh (prime) vs Joe Calzaghe (2008) at light-heavy, who wins?

Not sure if this fantasy fight has been discussed before but it's a fight that intrigues me more than the majority of fantasy fights. Would Conteh be able to use his brilliant boxing skills to outfox Calzaghe or would the Pride of Wales be able to overwhelm Conteh with his high intensity and punch output?

I think that Conteh would have drawn Calzaghe in and possibly stopped him. I think that John Conteh is the best British fighter we have ever had IMO...

I know exactly what Safc is laying down here because a guy like SAFC doesn't throw down a challenge to invoke rapid responses - you've got to think about the derivatives and ponder. Damn interesting match up. I need time to think, but i give Joe, who mastered that style which was very hard to figure out a very good chance. For me JC falls into that 'special' category with the likes of Roy Jones, Sweet Pea et al.

I see Calzaghe being frustrated into walking onto right hands all night and being rescued by his corner late on.

He never really fought anyone with footwork as good as Conteh that could manoevre themselves into position to get their shots off and take his workrate away - Hopkins did the latter to a degree and (IMO) deserved the win, but Calzaghe was probably slightly faded in there as well.

It would be much easier to guage if Calzaghe had moved up earlier and made more of a career at 175, but let's be honest, a top class super middle who often complained about struggling with the scales would more than likely be just as good 7lbs north.

Though Calzaghe's build was 100% perfect for 168, nowhere near the same fighter even 7 pounds up.

There are some massive gaps in Conteh's Curriculum Vitae on boxrec.

John drew with a fighter who's own Curriculum Vitae indicates 18-8-1 as a professional boxer.
