Default If Froch beats Kessler..Calzaghe is silenced

Calzaghe once said, ''Let's see him fight Kessler, because I know what the result of that fight would be''.

IMO, if Froch wins on Saturday, he automatically has a better resume than Calzaghe. He'll have beaten Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell and Kessler on the spin, meanwhile Joe mulls over a fight with ROBIN REID.

I think if Froch wins this it will embaress Calzaghe and make him want the ground to swallow him up.

Good luck Froch my man.

Well, i was thinking to the same thing, except in reverse; if Froch loses to Kessler, he would have lost to a lesser fighter than the one Joe beat.

He will be obliged to concede Joe's better than him and stop calling him out.

We will see.

if froch wins the super six .....

joe might comeback ....it could be hyped into a super british fight ?

froch will not shot up in the british papers if he wins

and joe is sat at home bored so he might be tempted

if froch loses then theres no point

If Froch beats Kessler and Abraham he does have a better RECORD (emphasise the word RECORD and not RESUME!) than Calzaghe.

Plenty of Calzaghe's opponents came into fights on the back of a loss (or run of losses, or had lost in their last meaningful fight) - so you could hardly beef if Froch did the same with two proven and still very formidable foes.

No he doesn't. I know it's the 'cool' thing to do and slag Calzaghe off, but he doesn't half get underrated now (as opposed to him being overrated on here this time last year). If Froch wins the Super Six then he has a very good case.

I know this isn't the point of the thread so maybe i'm out of place with this, but Calzaghe would completely outclass Froch prime for prime.

Froch will have a better record, but it's plain to see to any boxing fan that calzaghe is the more talented fighter

What's with all the Calzaghe hate, he would give Froch a boxing lesson.

Well said. This tournament seems to have levelled at a space where winners (even of each fight) seem to be given much more respect than just a normal fight. We are talking Calzaghe/Froch here but a week or so ago, Bute annihilated Andrade. A very impressive feat which has largely gone unnoticed since the Super Six (plus one) seem to dominate the SMW division presently. The bunch fighting for the S6 championship are a good list and make up most of the best out there. But you could look at any year from Calzaghe's WBO reign. Let's take a look at 6 of the best SMW's in 2004 for instance.

WBO - Calzaghe
WBA - Kessler
IBF - Lacy
WBC - Beyer
Wildcards - Mundine, Bika

Too few Americans to create such a tournament as now but most of these guys fought it out. Calzaghe fought and beat Kessler, Bika & Lacy, all of whom had at least 1 one fight with another. Essentially, what I'm saying (not in chronological order) is that Calzaghe beat Bika, Kessler beat the other wildcard Mundine. Calzaghe & Kessler unified by beating the other two champions and then essentially fought in a final.

Whoever is to blame for the earlier part of Calzaghe's reign being well, a bit lacklustre, should not diminish the fact that he has done great things in this division. If Froch wins this tournament then I'll be happy to sit down and revise my thoughts but at the moment, a last gasp stoppage of Taylor and a dodgy win over Dirrell don't even come close to matching Calzaghe in any way, shape or form. A win over Kessler would help of course, but even Kessler doesn't seem the force he once was. Ward is the new kid on the block to beat.

Essentially Froch is in a no-win situation on Saturday. If he beats Kessler, there's still an old score to settle with Dirrell, and arguably two other fighters (Bute and Ward) who have higher stocks presently. At the very least, Calzaghe fought and beat the best in his division when he left it.

Calzaghe beat lacy and kessler. Two no marks in an empty division. Froch passes him on saturday.
