Default Why is beating Arreola seen as a big deal?

I'll ask this away from general, because they're muppets and I'm looking for a serious debate.

So why is beating Arreola seen as a big deal? An accomplishment? Something better than beating a journeyman?

What has Arreola shown and who has he beaten to have a high stock?

He's American and can really punch. He had a good amateur background when he actually trained properly down at LHW. His combination punching is above average for a modern HW and he's Mexican, so has a good fanbase.

That is really it. His performance against Vitali and now Adamek shows he has three main issues:

- he's not well rounded enough to adapt or adopt a proper gameplan
- he marks up and cuts easily now he's like 30 years old
- he's a fat slob who doesn't train properly, so is less mobile than he needs to be.

Well, in regards to Adamek, Arreola had a huge weight and power advantage over him.
But Arreloa hasn't done much to be honest.

There come a point where a huge weight advantage isn't actually an advantage....

He's strong and punches hard. Nobody would mistake him for a skilled operator but when you are a small guy coming up from cruiserweight its quite impressive to prove yourself against a big guy that can punch.

Adamek was hurt numerous times though and can't punch shit.

Arreola has shown nothing to be held in such high regard. His record before last night consisted of chinning a load of nobodies and losing every round to Vitali.

Most of the posts talking up Adameks win are naturally by Adamek fans and they think overcoming Estrada was a massive achievement but I guess thats what fans do.

If your being generous you could say Arreola was the best of the rest outside of the champions,Povetkin and Chagaev and so it was a definate step up from Adamek's previous HW outings. Even if you accept this it tells you very little about his prospects against Klitschkos or Haye cos all these guys are on a different planet to Arreola.

I find it a more impressive scalp than Ruiz to be totally honest. He might not have the pedigree of Ruiz but he comes rushing in very similarly but he actually can punch, whereas Ruiz wasn't a dangerous puncher in that sense and as such was never a big threat.

Adamek made a bit of a hash of it though and have to overcome bad situations. I'd fancy Haye to make much more impression on Arreola.

Probably because Adamek is considered a small heavyweight.

I think he will continue to enjoy success against non-top 5 heavies - I'd say the only one he doesn't stand a chance with is Wlad.

Arreola is a small heavyweight too in reality. Just a fat one.

His 'weight advantage' is actually a huge disadvantage.

I agree with you on that.

There's more to being a good heavyweight than trying to match up physically with the Klitschko bros.

If you are around the 6'2'' mark you should be around 220 - as Adamek and Haye are - Arreola ought to be down below 230 at most, he's got a good engine, all that weight won't help anything at all, more hittable, slower etc.

A bit like Bowe in the 2nd Holyfield fight - turned up fat and got beat as a result.

Cos Arreola is a decent fighter, a natural puncher, heavy handed, durable.

He's a good scalp for anyone IMO, I wasn't concentrating fully on the fight but he hurt his hand too. He seemed on top to me through the mid-rounds.
