Forget the money. Back in 1909, he would've had no clue who in the hell Charlie Chaplin was.

What you wrote was 100 million, which, with inflation, would (I think) be more money than any single person has ever had in their name in history.

The contract didn't even have the zeros lined up properly. Check McVey's report. It reads 10000,000$. It should read $100,000,000

Not sure what's true but I do know the proper way to seperate figures is to have coma's after the third number, not the fourth. 10000,0000 is totally rediculous. If that's that right number of zeros then it's written 100,000,000, which is a 100 million. So was he offered a hundred million, or a million
(1,000,000)? Hard to believe any part of the story with such a glaring error in the heading.

Add that to the fact he went all over the world to fight Tommy Burns, who wanted a $30,000 purse and it seems very unplausible. In fact the 30,000 guarantee was also Johnson used a lot since that figured was used to postpone this fight, numerous times. And since Johnson fought mostly for the money, not the fame, it would be almost unimaginable that he would turn down this sum of money even if he was sure he'd loose.
