Just been reading that MMA fighter Paul Daley from Nottingham is considering a switch to boxing after being sacked by the UFC, with Frank Maloney being muted as a possible promoter.
He was a welterweight in UFC which translates to SMW/LH in boxing terms. Could he make it in boxing? From what I have seen of him in UFC he seems to have power but not much else. |

First and Foremost I Had Time For Paul but he embarrassed himself, his family and the British MMA scene with that bitch move. I still like him but that was pathetic.
For Boxing well he can bang with 4 oz gloves on...but most decent strikers can. He struggled to pin down Koscheck so he wouldn't get far in Boxing IMO. Maybe decent domestic level but i think he'd need to develop a lot more skills..other then straight banging. |

Correct me if im wrong but throwing a decent punch in MMA does not equate to boxing skills. There is little conventional defence in MMA becaus ethey are looking to defend takedowns kicks as well. So striking skills in MMA mean you can throw a decent dig but being in the right place at the right angles, footwork all need to be perfected

Yep, people point out the poor style and foot positioning of MMA fighters when they are throwing punches but a lot of that is down to needing to be aware of take downs, leg kicks etc.

Watching Daley and even Hardy (although to a lesser extent) at the last couple of UFCs, did make me think why are these fighting in MMA when striking is all they really have.
It's like being able to pole vault - so you do the decathlon. Daley doesn't deserve to fight in any sport after what he did after the Koscheck fight. But boxing or kickboxing seem to be a more logical sport for him than MMA given that he is a stand up fighter. |

power is nothing, i dont know anything about his amateur credentials in boxing but he will find it impossible as do most who have not been in boxing from an early age
does anyone know if he even boxed before, i know he was muay thai world champion which is serious so why dont he go onto the k1 scene instead would make more sense, although boxings equivalent level would bring far greater reward$ |

Not sure how much boxing he has done before, read somewhere he trains with Munroe sometimes, so i'd imagine that would involve some sparring (not with munroe obviously) but apart from that there doesn't appear to much background

Those that have done well in UFC, contrary to what was popular belief at its inception, have not been the martial artists but the wrestlers. The best style seems to be suited to a Judo or college wrestling background. It makes sense anybody can learn to throw a half decent punch and whats the point if you can take them to the gorund anyway? I think the style that is emerging is not of individual disciplines but an MMA style so you dont have to necassarily be a master at any of the disciplines alone.

Daley fucked up big time. He should stick to mma but i really can't see him getting the exposure of the UFC. For me him and Hardy were going to be the people White would keep on to help get the UK interested seeing as Bisping has been slipping.
Also i thought the punishment was a bit harsh. I know it was a real cheap move but is it as bad as the Hendo smashing bisping when he was out(don't think he was fined). Even more recently the Palhares submission at 111 were he wouldn't let go even after the guy had tapped (90 day suspension basically fuck all when as he probably wouldn't be on for 3 months). |

Supposedly Daley spoke to White like a cunt when he got into Octagon and asked what all of that was about he said he didn't hear the buzzer and then shrugged shoulders and said don't care when asked do you wanna be in UFC so White said your gone.
Daley seems that sorta guy who just doesn't give a toss about pretty much anything. |
