I don't want Bute to become a superstar. I want him to keep his feet on the ground and fight the best, not the biggest NAMES or for the biggest purses. This is what is important, I think. This is what is good for boxing. And THIS is what he should aim for, not fame and fortune. If he does the right thing, these will follow to; but he shouldn't aim for them, because in doing so he might diminish what is most important - in boxing: his legacy, and in life - his character. Bute should beware of anything that might lead to moral corrosion. His character is his biggest asset as a fighter.

This is all that matters, because everything else is not really up to him - you either have it or you don't.
Decebal, are you going to le centre bell this Friday? if yes, where are your seats, i'll drop by to say hellos.

I disagree. I think it's the best thing possible for Soto to test himself against a "supernatural" like Guzman! This is what all very good fighters should want - to test themselves against the best. And of course we should respect Soto more if he loses whilst fighting well against Guzman, than if he had been winning against a lesser opponent in a lesser/stay-busy fight! It does more for his legacy, after all.

Bute has a good club behind him and good promoters. He will make a lot of money. Let's not worry about Bute! If he keeps fighting well and improving and not ducking, Bute will become very rich. Let us worry instead about guys like Mijares and Guzman who don't have to backing to be given the comp at the highest level to the extent that they deserve and would wish for.

Anyway, I disagree with you...according to your plan, if you wanted to maximise your earnings, after you become a great boxer, you should continue fighting even when you're past your best, taking on the biggest offer, even if it's some raw kid with an ambitious promoter who wants to bag a big beast and stuff him on the resume! This is ignoble in my opinion and betrays a lack of self-respect. You are selling yourself for money.

Money should not come above glory, especially since if you chase glory, money usually follows more than willingly.

Interesting article in the newspaper this morning.

Purses for the fight:
Berrio: ~300K (Heard from Eric Lucas during a radio interview)
Bute: 200K (Newspaper)

R Ah! La mama! Je viens justement de lui parler. Elle me pose toujours les mêmes questions. Est-ce que je suis bien? Est-ce que je mange bien? Est-ce que j'ai été malade? Et puis, elle me passe mon père qui me demande toujours: tu vas le battre, n'est-ce pas? Oui papa, promis.

How is Bute's English? I imagine he's proficient in Romanian and French, but whether he can speak English well enough to get through a Lampley interview without a translator may have a direct bearing on his popularity.

I am not sure how good his English is...but some of the American boxers don't speak great English either...

Good question. I find he's okay in English. He should be okay with Lampley.

Wow, those purses are very very low compared to other title purses at SMW.
