Default Solo Boxeo Tecate: Christopher Martin vs. Adolfo Landeros RBR

Round 1

The unbeaten Martin drives Landeros back with an authoritative jab. Landeros tries to set his feet and throw with power but is flustered by the forward motion of Martin, who keeps pumping his jab and also reaching around for stiff hooks to the body. Landeros is almost constantly off-balance with his shots and falling short, mostly defensive when Martin begins letting his hands go, and trying to flurry when Martin takes breaks but having whatever doesn't miss outright blocked.

Martin 10-9.

Round 2

Martin again keeps his jab in the face of Landeros, now mixing in hooks and fast can-opener right hands. Landeros still hasn't found his timing to counter, and is missing a lot. Martin continues to go to the body liberally, some of the shots creating loud slapping sounds. One of Landeros' wild shots gets through and stuns Martin a bit, but he encourages Landeros to bring it on and closes out the round with a big full power hook-right combination.

Round 3

Martin showing some tricky feet - not moving altogether quickly but changing trajectory rapidly and often. He will lure Landeros in by backing up in a Philly shell, then begin to move laterally to turn Landeros and then attack him with combinations set up off a jab. Landeros still loading up big shots and missing.

Round 4

Landeros is trying to throw double uppercuts (one after the other) in an attempt to get some leather on Martin. Martin makes the adjustment and begins to widen his stance, springing backward off his lead foot to avoid the attacks from Landeros. Landeros tries it as Martin is near the ropes but Martin fires back with a right hand. Now Martin has Landeros on the ropes, but lets him free after landing a couple of hooks. A big right hand from Martin at the end of the round.

Round 5

Martin pushes Landeros back with the sustained strength of his attack, primarily with the jab. He begins to unload hooks as Landeros is trapped in the corner. Landeros gets out of the jam but continues to take the same amount of shots in the middle of the ring. Landeros doubles the southpaw jab and it opens up Martin's body, into which he plunges a straight left hand. Landeros catches Martin ducking from a jab with another left hand to the jaw. He then lands a right under-hook on Martin in the corner in the midst of a wild combination that snaps Martin's head back.

Closest round so far, but Martin is still shutting Landeros out.

Round 6

Martin returns to the body work he's been somewhat neglecting the last couple of rounds. Landeros tucks his chin and crosses his forearms and leans in on Martin, trying to initiate some infighting. Martin backs up and fires his jab, then steps to the side, intent on boxing on the outside (but still mostly the aggressor). Martin begins to potshot with lead left hooks. Landeros gets a couple of short straight left hands in by pushing forward as Martin relaxes and drops his hands. Landeros fires 1-2-3 combination that opens a big exchange where both land.

Round 7

Landeros back to his tactics from the previous round, taking artillery on the way in to arrive in the chest area of Martin, leaning against him and teeing off. This makes Martin uncomfortable and he tries to punch his way into some breathing room. Landeros is really effective this round, blocking Martin's shots and nailing him in the head as he's trying to duck away, and clapping his sides when he straigthens up. Martin is just getting smothered.

What a change in momentum, but coming late in an 8-rounder...maybe too late unless something dramatic happens.

Landeros 10-9

Martin up 69-64

this is the first Solo Boxeo card I've seen so far. The past shows haven't been appealing, as Golden Boy is the sole promoter of this series and the quality of fights isn't as good as Solo Boxeo used to be.

At least it's boxing on television, I guess!!

Round 8

Landeros tries to cleave to Martin with his southpaw jab but it isn't enough to deter Martin from opening up - a ferocious six punch combination gets Landeros to ease off. Martin is back into a rhythm on his feet, weaving and throwing pot-shots. Landeros is now back at the range that favors Martin and therefore unable to land any power punches. He keeps sticking the right jab hoping to hit paydirt. Martin gets bold and starts to stand in and trade with Landeros and they both get off. They fall together on the ropes and are broken up. They jab each other in the face. Martin pushes Landeros back with a fast combo, and they go right back to trading shots. Good action down the stretch, both taking heavy blows to the face.

Now, experienced trial horse Cristian Favela - campaigning at welterweight - takes on young prospect Luis Grajeda who is 9-0 (7) and looks insanely tall at a listed 6'1" (to Favela's 5'7").

Round 1

Grajeda is using his height very well, moving away from Favela and snapping out his jab, while circling left. His right hand remains coiled under his chin, his posture straight and his wiry frame carried lightly on his toes. Favela is managing to avoid getting lined up for any big follow-ups despite getting found with the jab all round - mainly by not taking any major offensive risks.

Round 2

Favela tries to punch under the arms of Grajeda, targeting his stomach, but can't get inside on him, badly outsized and outsped. Grajeda continues to tattoo Favela with the jab from way up in the clouds. Favela puts up a forearm grill in front of his face, with his gloves actually above his ears, and tries to bore his way through the jab, but he simply can't match the feet of Grajeda.

Round 3

Grajeda keeping Favela at the end of his shots. Favela keeps coming forward but without much change in gameplan. Sweeping hooks come nowhere close to the body of the long and slippery Grajeda. The crowd is not enjoying this particular match, and begins to pepper their appeals for action with a good many boos.

Round 4

Luis Grajeda has time to pull up his trunks as Cristian Favela charges in before planting his feet and landing a counter hook, then fleeing the scene of the crime. Grajeda now allows Favela to close the distance and simply catches him as Favela windmills, caught up in his own momentum, and Grajeda simply pushes him back, sending him stumbling to a distance where Grajeda can think about either cracking him with a jab or repeating the catch-and-release process. Favela just keeps coming straight in and swinging from his guard. Grajeda looks disinterested and throws a very slow lazy hook that Favela ducks, then air***** an entire combination, basically just swatting at Favela as though he were a fly (which is really about all the danger he represents).
