Universum fighters going to America?

There is usually a Hispanic-themed pay-per-view card in mid-September to coincide with Mexican Independence Day, and this year won't be any different. As Mexico readies for its Sept. 16 bicentennial, Golden Boy is planning a Sept. 18 split-site PPV with fights from Mexico City and either Las Vegas or Los Angeles, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer said. He said the company is planning several days of festivities because of the significance of Mexico's 200th birthday.

In the works, Schaefer said, is a mariachi festival from the U.S. site a few days before the card, a dinner open to fans featuring many of Mexico's all-time boxing greats and a Telefutura card the night before the pay-per-view.

If junior middleweight Saul Alvarez (32-0-1, 24 KOs), the rising Mexican star now with Golden Boy, comes through July 10 against Luciano Cuello in Mexico, he'd be on the card from the U.S. site. Junior welterweight Victor Ortiz could also be on.

The show's card is still fluid, but Schaefer said he wants to include at least two title bouts. Golden Boy has ties to German promoter Universum, and Schaefer said fights being tossed around include junior lightweight titlist Vitali Tajbert against Daniel Ponce De Leon, interim middleweight titlist Sebastian Zbik against Sergio Mora and light heavyweight titleholder Jurgen Brahmer against Librado Andrade.

"These fights aren't set, but they're the kinds of fights we're talking about," he said.

The only German fighter to have won or defended a world title on foreign soil since Schmeling is Markus Beyer. So i'd be surprised if any of these bouts materialised.

PDL is Tajbert's mandatory, so that makes sense. Universum knows that Golden Boy can outbid them for that fight if it goes to purse bid.

The other ones, not as much. Plus, I doubt Braehmer would even be allowed into the US, if the card is here. He's a convicted felon out on parole.

But hell, Mora's probably the only big name I'd give Zbik even a chance against, so they might take the risk there. Otherwise, Zbik would need to probably fight Maravilla in the near future (and Martinez is threatening to actually take the fight), and there's no chance in hell he wins that one.

Ponce has never fought at 130lbs yet. how come hes Tajberts mandatory?
and Tajbert has some legal thread going as well. he knocked someone into coma at a party. Zbik ducked Gevor recently. I hope they will finally strip him his paper belt off if he refuses to fight Martinez.
Zbik is also accused of knocking out his sister and their husband.
Looks like the German try to get rid of their criminals.
Maybe they should make that card happen at Guantanamo.

Braehmer-Andrade does sound sexy.

The new and improved Ponce De Leon should walk right through Tajbert, obliging that mando would be very bold.

Zbik vs. Mora is the least appealing but still a bit surprising.

It won´t be renewed still runs until 24th (?) of July. They are in talks with SAT1 but they already have a contract with Oener ....

It runs until 31th of July. The last fight will probably happen at this date when Dimitrenko faces Bakhtow for the Euro-title.

Universum's star fighters may soon be fighting as "the opponent" for other promoter's boxers. Imagine that: Universum overpowered by Titov in a purse bid. That means Bakhtov is the "house" fighter in the upcoming Dmitrienko-Bakhtov title fight. It will be interesting to see what happens...Dmitrienko will be ring rusty (one year layoff), and he will not have the protection of his promoter. Plus, Titov is co-promoting with Oner, and we all know what that means in Germany.

You're right, Ponce is mandatory at 126. I just remembered they made Ponce-Lock an eliminator, but forgot which class.

Anyway, Universum is in trouble. They won't go away completely, but they're one or two more big defections away from becoming the #3 promoter in Germany when they were #1 only a few years ago. Sauerland has clearly passed them in the last year. Maybe if they tried making legitimate fights they wouldn't have these kinds of problems, but their matchmaking is just horrible.

neither is Braehmer which is one of his major problems besides hes a criminal and waisted a lot of time in jail and his trainer is a bum.
matching Braehmer with someone physically strong as Garay in his first or second fight at 176lbs was funny.
Braehmer in his early days was really a promising fighter and explosive as hell. If Braehmer got some proper coach he would beat Andrade easily imo.
