Just watched the Darchinyan fight and I was underwhelmed to say the least and I have often had this opinion after watching Darchinyan for quite some years.
Tonight he refused to listen to his corner, he failed to throw combinations to any real extent and the uppercut was sadly missing. I know Darchinyan has an unorthodox style but his movement is far from fluent. He is probably the most damaging hardest hitting boxer P4P so he can bludgeon an opponent but his chin is suspect and his boxing skills are lacking. I don't knowboxers in his weight category very well but if any of them have any skills Darchinyan will get schooled badly. He has great pride and is a marvellous fighter but his damaging style while crowd pleasing doesn't compensate for his shortcomings. |

Any top ten fly would have beaten him tonight. When he got hit, he retreated, and that guy wasn't a hard puncher. His style is the same if not worse. He still loads every shot but what was noticeable tonight was that he was slow on the trigger. Again...Catubay was very mediocre albeit game, but to go 12 rds with that level guy...If they put him in with a half decent guy who can punch, Vic gets ko'd again. |

The filo showed massive heart and courage, esp in the 12th when he was spent. Yeah i was not impressed with Darch either. A good fight would be him with alexander munoz. |

I got the impression he fought the whole 12 rounds so the broadcast could finish on schedule. His defense does look lazy but he was landing pretty frequently and when the 12th started he motored out and imo the ref should have stopped it a minute earlier, seemed to me that he was giving Vic every oppurtunity to knock him down. Vic seemed content to spar a solid 12 rounds but does put himself in the firing line. A bit of arrogance showed through in not listening to his corner but when you've done the hard yards and been there before that can be understandable but still dangerous.
Mightily impressed by Kickett, showed a lot of composure which cant be taught and when he did tee off hardly wasted a shot. Time for a good opponent, CC seems to being a good job training him. Zappa vs Langham was great, no questions about Langhams heart, even after the fifth knockdown he wanted to go on but his corner wisely threw the towel in. Wasn't overly impressed with Zap saying L didn't want to fight but it was a post fight interview so won't read too much into it. That first fight, Buonakova vs Ryan, jebus, was a rematch, why? Admire Ryan for getting in the ring but really looked overawed to be generous. Watched him pawing out his jab and seeing stuff like that just gets me concerned. Kalache v Timbii, another blowout, cant read too much into it but a solid debut, what else can you ask for from a debuting fighter? Great card from Fox, plus some great colour from Danny Green. I spent $40 on Ibragivom-Holyfield last week and this card was ten times better. |
