Can't really comment since he's only trained Roy. He must not be that great if he let Roy get away with having his hands low for such a long time. Now that he doesn't have his reflexes he has went to shit

I don't think that anyone has seen the best that Roy has to offer. I think he is probably the best this world has ever seen talent wise, but I know he could have been better if he had just a little more discipline, if he hadn't spread himself too thin, doing too many activities. He didn't get to concentrate on the things that got him where he is which is boxing. -Jones Sr
I don't know how much of Roy's boxing greatness you can credit SR for... Roy never did learn basic fundamentals that would carry him in his twilight years... Once his reflexes began to slow, he couldn't beat the top fighters. His father was tough though.. Once putting him on the back of a bull when he was young, and tossing him in the Gulf of Mexico to learn how to swim. It seemed like he taught Roy to fight his way out of tough situations, but never really taught him basic boxing fundamentals. Roy may have been more focused had SR trained him his whole career, nothing would have saved him from his inevitable decline in my opinion. |
