EMBATTLED boxing champion Danny Green needs to fight someone with a "serious record" and who is not "on the other side of the hill" to resurrect his career, says legendary compatriot Barry Michael, who tipped the Green Machine to re-enter the ring before the year is out.

Green has been forced to fend off attacks on his character after luring fellow Australian Paul Briggs out of a 3 1/2-year retirement to challenge for the IBO cruiserweight title - a bout the West Australian took 29 seconds to win.
An SMS encouraging a betting plunge on a first-round KO circulated on the morning of the July 21 fight and sparked the WA Combat Sports Commission to launch an inquiry into the bout.
The easy win against a rusty opponent and suggestions of a sham rocked Green's once-solid reputation and prompted the 37-year-old titleholder to promise to make it up to fans.
Michael, best remembered for taking the IBF super-featherweight title from Lester Ellis in 1985, now trains New Zealander Shane Cameron, who won the headlining bout on the Green-Briggs undercard before entering the ring and issuing a challenge to Green.

Michael said Green had already contacted the Cameron camp with a loose fight plan.
"They said Danny's going to bring in a top overseas opponent and Shane Cameron will fight as the main support, probably against (Dominic Vea) for the Commonwealth cruiserweight title," Michael said.
"Then whoever wins, if Danny wins and Shane wins, they're the next cab off the rank. I figure they'd have to do something before Christmas - build it up and then fight Shane in the new year I'd reckon.
"He could back up pronto and probably the sooner he does, the sooner he comes up with a credible opponent, the better it's going to look for him."
Michael said that Green could restore his reputation if he fought someone with a serious record, not regarded as being past it and who shaped as a serious threat.
"That's the hard part ... but I'm sure they'll find someone. They've told us they're going to bring out someone credible and look, Danny can fight, he can go with the best there is and I think that's what he's got to do," Michael said.
"It's all good destroying a Roy Jones, but as good a fighter as he was, we all know it was the end of his career.
"If Danny fights Antonio Tarver, whose name has been bandied around a bit, and destroys him, which he might well do because he punches that hard, he'll cop flak over it too.
"It's time to satisfy the public and bring in a good name that's not on the other side of the hill."
Meanwhile, a mixed-discipline brawl between Green and Australia's leading ultimate fighter, Soa Palelei, is a step closer with white-collar boxing promoter and Perth personality Troy Barbagallo throwing his weight behind the bout.
s"Danny has asked for a fight with Brock Lesnar with hands and elbows in a cage. Brock is obviously not going to agree but we have someone that has - Soa 'The Hulk'.
"They are both from Perth, both know each other, both world-class and both very capable of putting on a great show.
"It's all in Danny's hands now."
Palelei said Green Machine Promotions had been contacted but were yet to respond to the challenge.

2/ Vea vs Cameron for Commonwealth Title

...sounds like the making of a good card, and doesn't Australian boxing need one!

"Top overseas opponent" = South American with padded record mysteriously catapulted up the ratings ladder.

Catchweight ? Your've got to be joking. Cameron is a heavyweight. No way can he weigh any less than the cruiserweight limit of 200 for a fight against Green.

We already know how good Green is. Dawson would win a 12 rd shutout against Green at 175.

u mean like jones was suppose to do? lol

of course dawson is very good, but u know as soon as people completely write off a fighters chances they end up with egg on their faces.

of course i would put my money on dawson, but green is a very underrated force at light heavyweight. he would be a massive concern for no matter who he fought at that weight.

Sorry but Danny Green has no chance against Chad Dawson at 175 plus the fact that Green now campaigns at 180-185 lbs so cutting down to 175 may affect him at his age. I would be shocked if many people thought Green had any shot at beating Dawson.

Sounds like the type of fighter Green ought to be fighting, and he's now at a point where another farce would very, very seriously damage his future prospects.

Green's ironically a little unlucky that he can bang. Because he stops his dud opponents.

Whereas Mundine just fights boring points decisions with his dud opponents, and by comparison, it doesn't look quite as bad.
