I honestly think if many physically saw Marciano in the ring with a 230 tank like Mercer they would sober up real fast ... giving up thirty five to forty pounds of muscle in a style match up like this one is a huge uphill battle ... again, this is why they have weight divisions ...

Why not match up Dick TIger and Marciano ? Tiger had tremendous heart. Tiger was tremendously strong. Why not ?

I just dont think mercer has the engine to stay with marciano. I liked mercer, he was strong but in his best fights alowed people to dominate him only to wake up later on and win. I just dont think he wouild get back into the fight against marciano.

I realy think mercers size advantage would not make any diffrence against the rock. Mercer was a fair contender for his day but not a "one off". Mercer was not a natural superheavyweight either, had he fought in rockys era he would not have bulked up, he would have remained nearer his olympic weight and been a beter fighter IMO. with more wind and a beter pace ray would be a harder opponent for marciano than the beefcake who lost to jesse ferguson.

If harry greb could beat world class contenders 30 pounds heavier by going at them without marcianos punch its not unresonable to asume marciano could also.

Yes. Things like this make me not want to give Ray a chance in this fight. Rocky punched harder than Holyfield, who decked Mercer. But then again, Ray took everything Lennox Lewis dished out. Lewis was throwing some bombs with his feet planted, and Ray still kept coming. I'm not going to say Rocky wins this just because he's an ATG, but physically, this would be a real task for Rocky.

I would go with Marciano via decision. Mercer is durable enough, but I don't think he would outwork Marciano.

I would rather pit Marciano, who was a great fighter, against guys that peak at 200 pounds tops. Some great fighters in that category. And that's more fair.

Mercer would run outta gas fast against Marciano due to his constant pressure and Marciano would just proceed to brutalize him. The ref saves Mercer in the late rounds, probably still on his feet, but his arms, ribs, neck, head would be destroyed.
