Default BritishBoxing.net underrated fighters

In a recent article Oliver Fennell looks at underrated fighters. Included in the list are:

Amir Khan (bizarre???), Danny Williams (debatable) and John McDermott (Are you serious????).

Williams has always been touted as a fighter who performs superbly in the gym but struggles to convert that to fights. We have seen glimpses of that talent against Meehan and a faded Tyson, but he is letdown by his frail mental make-up. Top fighters must be mentally and physically sound. I wouldn't say he is underrated as Williams has always flattered to decieve.

Amir Khan: He has come across as a talented fighter with a few flaws. He has been trying to alter his style from the amateurs and it is leading to him making mistakes in the professional game. But he is learning with every performance and coming along okay. I also think question marks about his chin are a little unfair. I wouldn't say he is underrated as it is clear he has much to learn.

John McDermott: Has always come across as a plodding heavyweight with okay hand speed and quite good power . He looks like he is, an average domestic heavy who is unlikely to get past European level. Underrated - for good reason.

I'd also argue with Oliver putting Woods as I think he's a weak champion in an even weaker division. He's workmanlike, I'll give him that, but the LHW division doesnt have a Barrera, Hatton, Mayweather, DLH, Calzaghe etc...

Worked out nice for clinton though.

John McDermott is lucky to get a mention. Just another out of shape HW that has not trump card. Hasnt beat anyone bar Scott Gammer who in turn seemed a different fighter after his single loss...
McDermott is very average

Khan- overated if anything....

Yep, his opponents get slated, yet compare him to other 21 year old prospects and their opponents.

Well i think Mcdermott is rated exactly how he should be. If Danny Williams comes in under 18 stone and up for it he will definitely beat Mcdermott.
Woods is the most underated fighter out there. He has loads of heart and ring generalship with a decent enough chin and skills. He would give even Calzaghe a tough night.
Kahn is not underated he is also rated as he should be.
