Default Antuofermo vs. Valdez

Vito only went forward, would this be his undoing here? I'm thinking so.

I do too. Valdez is too strong, hard punching and skilled for Antuefermo. Him coming at Valdez would be his undoing.

Thats's what I tend to think as well. The problem is that's exactly what every Antuofermo fight was like. Those muggers just don't do well on hypothetical fights but sure ended up as overachievers in a land of underachievers.

Vito shouldn't have been able to do much in a lot of matches but the guy just had that strong will power in there and always seem to turn a fight into his style of fight. It sure wasn't flashy, but it makes you appreciate the dedication and conditioning of the Antuofermo and Hamsho and Fullmer type fighters that on paper should lose every big fight they ever had. The thing is, those guys sure did win a lot of fights and I'm not convinced Valdez would not get outmuscled by the guy. Rodrigo got outmuscled by Corro and it sure did reduce his effectiveness and Vito could very well pull off the same thing. Vito could back him to the ropes and maul his way to a win.

Valdez by ko in the 4th...a game but a brutally outclassed Wito would have been crucified.

Valdez fought Monzon whereas Antuofermo fought Hagler you see, so Valdez wins.

I think it'd be a close gritty hard fight for both men

Valdez is superior in every department ,except bleeding, one sided thrashing before the ref steps in.

Prime for prime...Valdez would stop Vito in the tenth. Terrible match-up for Vito.

Rodrigo could stay the hell away from him and carve him up. Valdez was an excellent middleweight who was shut off from greatness only by Monzon. Punching wins this one, and Rodrigo was by far the better puncher. Valdez-Antuofermo in early 1976 would have been fun to watch, and excellent preparation for his unification showdown with King Carlos.

What in ****'s name has Valdez done to deserve this level of arse-kissing? Apart from the contenders' whipping boy Briscoe the guy has hardly a single rated opponent on his entire record. The fact is that these two guys are thoroughly on the same level. Antuofermo's more active, more tricky to hit and better with his feet; Valdez has the edge in punching ability. Valdez has a shot at getting rid of him, but Vito's hardly glass-jawed and doesn't block punches with his chin unlike Briscoe and could easily see things out to take the D. But oh no, this guy would have been an ATG MW if it weren't for the great Monzon, he would have beaten Hagler Hopkins Robinson the lot, only the great Monzon stopped him, what a great fighter the great Monzon must have been!

Yeah, with his speedy, elegant footwork and long, educated jab, unlike Hagler...

On paper Antuofermo doesn't necessarily match up well with anybody but he always gave maximum effort in the ring and thus achieved more than many would have expected him to. It would be a tough, hard fight like most fights involving the two, with Valdez probably winning either by cuts stoppage or a decision. He did KO Briscoe once with the perfect punch, but went the distance twice too.

Valdez could probably win on something like a 13th round TKO, but he would not kayo Vito.
