But he did not come down. He has no claim whatsoever to be the best at 154lbs currently, or when Mayweather beat Cotto. That's like claiming either Mayweather or Pacquiao can still make 140lbs, so lets rank them as the best 2 there. Let's not stop there, Mayweather and Pacquiao are still the best in every division they have previously been in.

It can be argued that given his previous achievements and experience, also given how improved Cotto has been in a lot of areas since he hooked up with Garcia...he is/was the best at 154lbs at the time Mayweather beat him.

Castillo and Corrales are way overrated in ESB.

Corrales used his weight to advantage but he really does not have much to his arsenal. He is slow, does not even fight tall.

Kostya has more pedigree than those two, whose actual pedigree is having a round robin among themselves.

Just face it, Floyd ducked every fighter in every weight class apart from the 43 that he faced. This seems to be the theory on this forum!!

People just list fighters that he never faced and blame Floyd. even though Cotto admitted he never called out Floyd and Shane admitted he pulled out of the fight they both get named on a daily basis as guys Floyd ducked.

Pacmans record at 130 and below for me is great and his win against Cotto even at the catch weight is a great win. JMM will always have his number and vice versa no shame in that JMM really is a great fighter.

Floyd has an excellent record overall but lacks the defining fight. A win over Pac/Sergio would seal his legacy. Most of Floyd's wins come against fighters that most on esb have never heard of. They see Coralles and castillio and think they know them because they watched round 10 of their first fight, they have never heard of Hernandez etc.

Mayweather has a great resume, but some of his wins get overrated.

Baldomir - I don't care how the belts he won made him #1... he wasn't
Mosley - good win, but tired of the he was "#3 p4p" nonsense.... losing to Cotto, going life and death with Mayorga and beating Margarito don't make you #3 p4p
Chico - great win, a masterclass
Genaro - great win
JLC rematch - great win
Oscar - great win
Cotto - slightly overrated win but good

Not crazy about considering Cotto the best at 154 due to how thin his resume is there, but then again, that division has been a damn mess for so long that he might get that distinction on the basis of work in the lower classes. This of course should not be taken as support for dodong's absurd suggestion that Sergio Martinez should somehow be considered the best there.

He's beaten the best available that's for sure. But just because they were the best available at the time, that doesn't mean they are great wins.
