Leading Australian heavyweight Adam Forsyth notches important win

AUSTRALIAN title-holder Daniel Ammann beware - Adam Forsyth is coming for your belt.

That was the undertone this week as West Australian Forsyth, the country's leading cruiserweight fighter, boosted his international credentials while keeping his near-flawless knockout record intact with a fourth-round stoppage of American Chris Thomas in Sydney.
Forsyth's pro record is now nine fights, nine wins, eight by knockout, and he will meet Ammann in a fight for the Australian title in Newcastle on October 8.
The 29-year-old said this week's win had him brimming with confidence ahead of the challenge.
"I view the win as setting a new benchmark for my boxing," Forsyth said.
"To fight and beat a well-known American fighter is a great step in my career.

"It was a challenge to take him on, but well worth it as the fight has given me a new level to work off.
"I now look forward to vying for the Australian title ... I'm feeling very confident, in top physical form and mentally prepared."
Forsyth began his scheduled eight-round bout on shaky ground with Thomas, who has previously gone the distance with heavy-hitting champion B.J. Flores in a WBF super cruiserweight title fight, landing several rights.
But the Australian soon wore down his opponent before he dropped Thomas in his own corner.
"I got him in my corner in a 50-punch flurry," Forsyth said. "He moved back to his corner, I then threw a straight left and straight right, caught him in the head and he went down."
Meanwhile, fellow WA fighter Mark de Mori made the most of a visit from Ghanian legend Azumah Nelson this week.
Former featherweight and super-featherweight champion Nelson, in Perth as the Ghana Commonwealth Games boxing squad takes on their Australian opponents in a Delhi warm-up, is best known in local circles for his shock KO of Jeff Fenech in 1992 after the pair drew their first meeting in Las Vegas the previous year.
"I wish I could've asked him a million more questions about boxing and life," heavyweight de Mori said. "Just seeing this man who's achieved so much fighting for his country and his people be so humble and genuine was a good reminder of what a real champion is.[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Good to see Kronky's passed the batton into such capable hands Stiffy.

Do you offer the signed Forsyth gloves as well?

The markets gotta be crying out right now for the 'Kronk K50' glove Stiffy - strike while the iron's hot mate.

Perhaps something pretty low key like these Muhammad Ali gloves:

...you know, just a picture of Adam, the Aussie flag etc.

So it's the 'A' Bomb vs The Doberman:

Hungry Doberman on guard for rare title defence

by JOSH LEESON - Newcastle Herald - 10th Sept 2010.

FOR the past 2? years Stockton bruiser Daniel Ammann has been frustrated by the lack of competition for his Australian cruiserweight title.

That will change on October 8 when "The Doberman" puts his belt on the line against one of Australia's brightest up-and-coming boxers, former Olympian Adam Forsyth.

The fight will be held at Newcastle Basketball Stadium, which 30 years ago was a regular home of big-time boxing.

Ammann, 27, won the vacant cruiserweight crown when he beat Just.in Clements at the Hamilton RSL Club in July, 2006.

Since then the southpaw has made only three defences, the last against Brett Smith in February 2008.

"The Doberman" is chomping at the bit to be unleashed against Forsyth, who signed the contract for the bout yesterday.

"It's been over two and a half years, the belt's just been sitting on the shelf and it's been pretty frustrating," Ammann said.

"So I'm glad somebody has finally put their hand up and challenged me for my title again."

The Kiwi-born Forsyth reached the quarter-finals of the 2004 Athens Olympics for Australia before controversially losing 27-12 to Egyptian Mohamed Elsayed. The West Australian accused the judges of corruption.

After losing an Olympic qualifier against Victorian Brad Pitt in 2008, Forsyth turned professional and has been devastating ever since.

The 29-year-old has won all nine of his professional bouts, eight by knockout.

"I've been real impressed with him ever since I saw him fight in the Olympics in 2004 before I started boxing," Ammann said.

"He's a great opponent, good boxer and hard puncher so he's dangerous on a number of levels."
