Default Ishida loses to Alvarez - another door closes?

Ishida loses to Alvarez by split decision

- The Boxing Bulletin - 10th Oct 2010

Nobuhiro Ishida was unable to claim the WBA junior middleweight title in Tepic, Mexico, on Saturday, dropping a split decision to Rigoberto Alvarez. A technician that depends on his jab and speed, Ishida planned to out box the unheralded older brother of popular red-headed prospect Canelo.

Though he had some success in the early frames, the 35-year old would see his output drop over the course of the bout as he struggled to deal with Alvarez’s looping hooks. Giving up a knockdown in the seventh, Ishida tried to fight his way back in the late rounds but was unable to regain his rhythm. Final tallies were 115-112 and 114-113 for the local fighter against one 114-113 vote for the interim champ.

According to Jiji dot com the Japanese product started out well, avoiding Alvarez’s shots while sticking him with his jab. However, moving into the middle rounds, Ishida became more defensive in the face of left and right hooks from the crouched Mexican, and the number of punches landed by the visitor dropped off.

Alvarez added to his case by flooring the Japanese champ with a left hand in the seventh round. Ishida later told reporters he believed his feet got tangled and slipped rather than being hurt by a punch. Regardless, the 29-fight veteran was forced to play catch-up in the final rounds. Though his opponent ended the bout with cuts over both eyes, Ishida, thrown off his rhythm and with fatigue building, was unable to increase his output and just fell short on the cards.

After pursuing a shot at the regular title for the past thirteen months, Ishida was unable to take advantage of the opportunity and falls to 22-6-2, 7KO. His camp clearly objected to the scores, which were not announced initially with the outcome, and could very well file a complaint to the organization.

Canelo’s older brother surprisingly beats his more talented sibling to a world title (well, not really if you count the "Silver" belt that Saul currently possesses) and improves to 26-2, 19KO. In order for this fight to take place for the regular crown, the winner had to agree to face WBA #3 ranked Austin Trout, tentatively in December.

With Ishida’s representatives likely to press for a rematch, and with Anthony Mundine also talking about challenging for the title, Alvarez may be waiting a while to make his first defense.

Why does it bother you so much when I post something relevant to him Ash?

Ishida's the guy who Flash described on DSS' radio show only a couple of weeks ago as 'low power, never fought out of Japan, and easy pickings'.

Don't you see it as relevant that the guy Flash was targeting as a potential opponent just got beat Ash?

Ishida is the guy that Flash actually stated on here he would prefer Mundine to face than Golovkin.

Now that the soft-touch Jap has been beaten by a tough Mexican, what chances are there of Mundine seeking to fight Alvarez?

Wrong Latino nationality

Stick to the Argies "Steven"

?

its obvious.

ashley is one of mundines biggest nuthuggers......he is jealous!!!!

however, ashley will site as a defence, his lack of pro mundine posts in recent times.

all that does is explain his lack of loyalty in the face of adversity.....(or mundines lack of it...)

Ouch, we certainly are touchy!

Why niggle about this post if, as you say, it is relevant?

I suppose your 500 plus self-professed nuthugger posts were all relevant to something too mate - but God knows what - LOL!

It's funny looking back at some of the shite that bloke posted on here.

It's also funny that it was really ashley's fault that Flash copped so much shit on here - ash invited him to join up here, then ash started a thread dedicated to Flash, inviting everyone to ask questions of him.

During the Q&A process, Flash couldn't help himself, he had to keep mentioning Mundine and dropping names, so of course, when it became apparent from his name-dropping etc. that he was close to the Mundine camp, the more perceptive and enquiring minds on this board started asking pertinent questions.

Flash started getting defensive at first and then started ignoring these questions, and ash went into 'protector' mode, sending PMs telling people they'd "gone too far" - his reason being that it was good to get inside info from industry people, and those sorts of questions i.e. straightforward seeking the truth - would scare industry insiders off

**** man, who wants an industry insider to post here if they're only going to post bullshit props for whoever they're training anyway? That's not the whole story, that's just worthless propaganda

Although I guess ash thought Flash would put in a good word for him and he'd be able to work his corner one day

Sally - I'm still a big fan of Mundine and will support him every fight...however I wont post stuff on here until he takes a big fight

I don't have any particular problem with him being talked about Ash - simply a case of credit where it's due and critisism where it's due.

The fact that he seems to have run his race as far as credits go doesn't suddenly mean he's immune to any critisism that might be due...

...and it's hard to argue he isn't entitled to some for his recent opponent choices - perhaps you'd like to offer an alternate opinion about that???
