Another rare image of John L Sullivan from, John L. Sullivan, Life and Reminiscences of a 19th Century Gladiator (Boston: Jas. A. Hearn & Co., 1892) 291. (Side view showing depth of chest during extreme inflation)

Old picture depicting the legend of John L. Sullivan, so the story, goes single-handedly repositioning a derailed tram back onto it's tracks

The little you can see of Sullivan's face illustrates the intensity and violence of what was happening... Great pic.

Great sparring images of young Toledo Dempsey - sorry to all the naysayers but this guy was one of the greatest fighters ever...period

PS DaveK do you reckon you could use any of these for your fantasy fight pics?

Great shots of this hard and tigerish Dempsey. Not for nothing, did Jack Dempsey leave
such an impression on the boxing establishhment of his time. One of his sparring partners above was most likely Big Bill Tate or George Godfrey...

Fun picture! But, well...I may be made to look foolish and regret saying this...

But that picture doesn't look like an authentic 'old' illustration to this artist's eyes.

The artist who produced it has talent, yes. And he may have even tried to make it look like an old illustration...But it looks to me like he has been influenced by 1980s art styles. Post Frazetta, I'm sure of it.
