Awesome pictures BTW Theron, some I've never seen before, some real gems.
The guy is Sam Berger, an amateur champion, and friend of Jim Jeffries, also the main sparring partner of Big Jeff...

The sad reality of boxing for majority of Blacks who had no formal qualifications or education. Beau Jack, 2 time Lightweight World Champion, back when that meant a damn, headlined at the the Mecca of boxing Madison Square Garden a record 21 times more than any fighter in history, reduced to shinning shoes outside a hotel in Miami Beach, a job he had before he took up boxing. Cus D'Amato at the time trainer for Floyd Patterson saw him and decided to shin his shoes instead. An amazing and depressing photo.
Old Beau Jack who was the most crowd pleasing fighter I ever saw...
So exciting that Beau Jack SOLD out MSG 7 times in one year...I saw
Beau Jack demolished by Ike Williams in Philly in 1948...Ref almost caused
Beau Jack his life ala Benny Paret...Beau's nemesis was the great Ike Williams....SAD to see for me, as the first pro card my dad took me to see was headlined by Beau Jack....

Must've been a sight to see Beau Jack in the flesh doing what he did best a great but sadly mostly forgotten fighter...I've seen the footage of Williams TKO over Jack, very brutal.
