Default Boxing Goods at Car Boot Sales/Charity Shops

I would go to a car boot sale and charity shops from time to time, mainly to look for vinyl records, but also hope to pick up some boxing books, tapes and DVDs.

I scored some quality old fights all on VHS today, plus a couple of boxing books.

The below were all from a Marshall Cavendish Video Collection:

Archie Moore v Yvon Durelle 1&2
Alexis Arguello v Ruben Olivares
Gene Tunney v Georges Carpenter/Tommy Gibbons/Jack Dempsey 1&2
Emile Griffith v Benny ‘Kid’ Paret
Henry Armstrong v Baby Arizmendi/Barney Ross/Baby Arizmendi
Marcel Cerdan v Robert Charron/Giovanni Manca/Jean Walzack/Lucian Krawsyck/Tony Zale
Ken Buchanan v Ismael Laguna
Jersey Joe Walcott v Rex Layne/Ezzard Charles 1&2
Bob Foster v **** Tiger/Frankie De Paula/Andy Kendall/ Vicente Rondon
Tommy Farr v Joe Louis/James J Braddock/Clarence ‘Red’ Burman
Roberto Duran v Ken Buchanan
Max Baer v Max Schmeling/Primo Carnera
Ezzard Charles v Joe Louis
Max Schmeling v Jack Sharkey/Young Stribling/Joe Louis
Nino Benvenuti v Emile Griffith/Luis Rodriguez/Tom Bethea

One more video (non-Cavendish):

The Best of Marvin Hagler

Plus a couple of books:

Books – Reg Gutteridge – Uppercuts and Dazes
Joe Calzaghe Autobiography

Has anyone else scored some good boxing tapes, books etc at car boot sales/charity shops.....

I got the 15 videos for £4. The books were £1 each.

*If I can get some idiot proof advice on how to record the VHS onto MP3 I will open a youtube channel and start uploading these....

That is great deal!

Were they the Marshall Cavendish collection - as it is called 'Boxer Series' too? That is cool that you got the accompanying magazines too

It's probably the ones you mention, I've only watched a few of them despite buying them over a year ago. I remember when these were on sale in the shops years ago, a new one every week. It's mostly older fights with a young Tyson being the the most recent.

Just had a look through my bookcase - got "Boxing Fitness" by Ian Oliver. Lots of good routines and tips in here, I tried doing crossovers the other day with my new speed rope and brought it down on the back of my neck and ear - hurt like ****.

An interesting looking book I picked up is "Boxing" by A.J. Newton - apparently a Light-weight Amateur Champion 1888 and 1890. This was first published in 1910, haven't raed it yet.

PS. Yeah, that was the same collection so I still have another 60 videos to go - I think this will be my new obsession until I get all 75 tapes! I cant wait to watch some of these old fights on a 42" LCD rather than youtube

Haven't been to a car boot for a long time, not since they closed the local one by us down.

I found a boxing programme today for Roy Gumbs v Mark Kaylor from 14.09.1983 which I bought for £2. It has Angelo Dundee's signature on the back which tells me he was at the fight. It was a Frank ****** promotion at Alexandra Palace.

I don't know how much it would be worth? I only bought it when I saw Dundee's autograph on the back!

Class find and a steal at £2

I must keep an eye out for boxing programmes. it is great to hear what others are finding at these places.

Hope others drop a few lines on what they have uncovered at car boots and the like and this thread becomes a regular

Aye, I have picked up a few books, the other one that I got the weekend before was 'Fighting Irish'

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I was delighted about the Reg Gutteridge one as I had heard from others on here that it is class read. Going to start it this weekend.
