The fact this type of passport doesn't already exist is absolutely staggering - welcome to the 21st century, boxing! WBC votes to create international boxer's passport from REUTERS - Nov 5th 2010 CANCUN: The World Boxing Council (WBC) has unanimously agreed to create a boxer's international passport containing a photo, medical information, the weight category and the fighter's record by July next year. At its annual convention, the WBC Board of Governors gave full backing to the proposal put forward by president Jose Sulaiman. There are 164 nations affiliated to the WBC. "It will be a certificate of competency and medical safety, dealing a significant blow to the pirates of boxing who exploit boxers, by falsifying records, overmatching them and woefully underpaying," Sulaiman said. WBC international secretary Frank Quill said the lack of protection for boxers travelling to other countries needed to be rectified. He gave the example of a promoter from Indonesia who had sent a boxer to Australia to fight with falsified documents. The fighter was diagnosed as HIV positive after authorities in Sydney conducted their own tests. |

I think this is due to the abuse by officals in thailand and other countrys, the international booklets have been around for yrs but can be falsifyed in variouse countrys that have corrupt officals. MANY MANY boxers in thailand have falsifyed records, you could be fighting a guy whos had 150 fights but he fights under a diffrent name with only 20 fights on his record, or you get a bloke whos never fought a boxing match in his life getting a book that says his record is 20-0 , all fights of course in thailand lol
The HIV issue is of concern, WTF! |

Kegsy, the officals earn around 2,500 baht per month. Which is roughly 80$ AUD. Its very cheap to pay these officals off and that is half of the problem in some of the countrys that falsify boxing records. They need to do something similar to what they do with VISA passports which i think is what the WBC guys are proposing? the only problem is they are going to need to spend money or get help from the goverment, lets hope that they do either of the two.

While there's a lot of truth to both your points. As Australian boxing fans we wouldn't even be concerned about what goes in Indo or Thai boxing if it weren't for the unscrupulous cunts in our own country trying to inflate local prospects records by importing these guys.
