Default A tribute to Enzo Calzaghe!!

He seems to come straight out of a comic - part mobster, part 70's pornstar and part Harvey Keitel's Mr Wolf - what a guy!

You look at him and you can see he has a special aura. Most underrated boxing trainer up to now, and looks like his magic is working on more limited fighters than Joe. He will definately bring more European champions to the boxing scene.

I saw a great interview somewhere, that went something like this:
I brought my son up and trained him to be a champion, but I didn't expect anything from him, that I wouldn't do with him - If I told him to do 500 sit-ups, then I would do 600.
Damn good trainer, and a special individual.

I find it incredible that Enzo started out with absolutely no boxing knowledge. He read books, watched fights, and learned to train his son from nothing. He trained with his son ,and took him all the to a World Title, a remarkable story.

You can't argue with his results. Calzaghe plus two belt holders, and those who have also joined Enzo C have improved tremendously

He annoys me, esp when talking about Enzo Mac..

But obviously he knows his boxing, knows his son better than anyone, when you combine that you have a great boxing trainer! Would he do the same and be commited to another fighter? Nah, its a once off, but its probably the best ever Father-Son combination or not far from it

Hes done really well with essentially 1 superstar and a stable of decent but not great fighters whos skillsets he has multiplied exponentially

Macarenelli, Pryce and Rees have all come on loads

Joe has an awful temper when he trains. He's a bit of a perfectionist and snaps at little things. No other trainer would take the **** from Joe that Enzo does. Enzo understands him and understands that the tempers his son goes through are just Joe's way. I don't think we'd still see him undefeated if his Dad wasn't in his corner.

Yes Enzo seems to be a very wise individual. And I want him to become Mikkels new trainer.

Joe calls him "a world champion on the pads" and recalls how he wanted to pull out of the career-defining Lacy fight last year with a damaged wrist but Enzo "went ballistic".

"He called me 'a ****ing chicken' and said I could beat the **** out of him with one hand. As it turned out, the injury healed and Lacy was demoralised from the first bell. Dad was proved right." Says Enzo: "Joe and I love each other but he gets no special treatment. I have to be cold-hearted. If anything I'm probably a bit harder on him than the others. This is no ego trip. I'm not Mr Big of the boxing world. I know in my own heart I am good at what I am doing, and the proof is in Joe's record and the fact that we now have two other world champions in this gym."

definatly joe is part lazy part perfectionalist. he is pro active but doesnt do it unless it effects him and enzo presses all the right buttons to get joe up and running(literelly)...which enzo runs with him,he always talks and jokes with him and always is on joes case and will let joe have some room when he is stressy but is there to press him again when he is over his hissy fit.

did anyone see that documentry called no averaghe joe? it's about joe calzaghe basicly not that long ago and there is a bit when enzo says are you running and joe goes no im making tea and enzo leaves and comes back after havinga run round the block

Interesting thread. While RJJ might beat Calaghe, RJJ's relationship with his dad was ****ING TERRIBLE and Roy Senior did HORRIBLE things to make RJJ succeed.
