Did anyone notice that Haye used Thompson and Mostapha Al Turk as security? Interesting to note that that fight grossed £10m. But pro MMA fighters still have to supplement their income by doing security jobs. Just goes to show the money in MMA is still pretty much a farce.

The money is there for MMA fighters. They have to break away and start promoting themselves. It took boxers a long time to do so. Sugar Ray Robinson started it but it was years before the superstars took over.

Nah i dont see it and i dont share your optimism. MMA isnt mainstream in the same vein that boxing is. Plus it doesnt have the casual interest or the history. The fact that Haye Harrison generated £10m speaks volumes. Harrison is nothing more than a bum. And a bad one and that. In my opinion its quite tragic that Thompson and Al Turk were doing security for Haye just to make the ends meet. Thats sure fire proof that theres no money in MMA and even more so for British MMA fighters. You best believe that James Degale probably makes more than all fighters combined on Brit regional shows.

It's no proof at all that there is no money in MMA.
It's just proof that at the top elite level there is more money in boxing. (i'm not going to debate if haye is elite or not, but he simply is at the top end of whatever food chain there is in the hw div) The top guys in MMA still makes lots of money. Instead of owning 5 mansions, they can only afford 1... i'll shed a tear for them next time no one's watching. Also, money at low level pro boxing and mma is the same. It's shit. The only difference is at the top end, where MMA money isn't bad, just boxing is much better. And mma payouts are on the continuous upward climb. |

Additionally theres many journeymen in boxing who have done fantastically well from the sport. I cant think of one MMA journeyman who's living the life of riley. |

Probably more of a favour and a mates thing. Like when Hatton was Barreras waterboy. He wasn't doing for the money just to support a mate. I mean Hatton has the Gallagers carry his belt in, I'm sure they don't need the £.

I find it hilarious when fans complain about the money. The second fighters start putting on a farce of a fight like Haye and earning millions for it, the second MMA dies and becomes a joke like boxing.
Watch Haye on Soccer AM. He plays fights with the guy, gets mount and does some GnP as a joke. |

MMA is a fab and the more people keep getting into it the more it will get exposed.. there are too many fighters and they're not fighting eachother and a few companies have too much power on who gets to fight for championships and become mainstream.. i used to watch it all the time and love it the action and the fights but lately there're too many boring fights of guys just wallking around the octagon afraid to fight or just huging eachother
