Default Joe Frazier as a puncher.

Would you classify him as an attrition type of KO puncher, or more of one punch KO artists?

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the hardest and 1 being a feather fisted puncher, what number would you give Frazier?

Fraziers hook was up there, I think a 3 on a scale of 1 -10, Frazier had a short prime, ending after the 1st Ali fight but power for power his hook is Elite

4 or 5 out of 10. Average punching power, requiering tens or hundreds of clean punches to stop an opponent.

Wow, I am surprised. A 3 out of ten? A 4 or 5 out of 10? These are below average scores. To use some benchmarks maybe Chris Byrd is a 4 or 5 out of ten. Maybe Tyson is a 9.5 or 10 out of Ten. Maybe Larry Holmes was a 6.5 to 7 out of ten to 10.

I think Frazier was about a 7.0 to 7.5 out of 10. Many hit harder. Frazier was an attrition type of knock out fighter; however the thing with Frazier is his stamina was excellent, and he carried his power late in his fights.

6 or 7, he good a good level of power but wasn't quite amongst the very top tier. To answer the question: Frazier was always more of attrition puncher, I think.

I think Bummy Davis meant a 3 asin 1 is best and 10 is worst-scale.

Funny how a non-puncher like Ali get's a 7 out of 10 by most and what does Frazier, someone who has something like 27 KO's out of 32 wins get? Goes to show you how overrated Ali's power is.

Going into the Ali and Foreman fights, Frazier was mentioned as being a hard puncher, of a caliber that Ali hadn't fought for years and Foreman never had.

I wouldn't say he's a big one-punch KO type of puncher but he carried a hard punch nonetheless. I would give him a 7 or an 8. To give a reference, i would rate Lewis/Tyson/Shavers/Marciano a 10, Byrd a 2 and Ali a 4.

Tyson would be a 9 to me, Foreman a 8.5, Louis, Dempsey, Liston a 8. A 10 is only Tua and Shavers.

I guess we all have different judging standards. Ok--your's is more like a bell curve with very few fighters being on the either end of the chart. I like this style in general.

My disagreement is on Frazier’s power. Clearly Frazier was a better than average, which on a 1-10 scale is 5.0 to 5.5

I'd give Ali about a 6 to 6.5. Ali's right cross when he threw it with bad intentions could do some damage.

Tyson has more one-punch KO's than Shavers despite being in a different class when it comes to combination punching (which leads to less one-punch KO's) AND facing better opposition, i don't see how Shavers can be ranked significantly higher than Tyson unless you were in your childhood during the late 70's.

If Shavers had Tyson's punching accuracy, I think he'd be getting the same opponents Tyson fought out faster.

What particular fights make Frazier better than average in punching power? Knocking down Ali after landing clearly no less than a couple of hundreds of punches in the previous rounds (I'm only guessing, and could be wrong by a hundred, really)? Or a knockout of a glass-chined (at heavyweight) Bob Foster?

Probably about a 7 out of ten - a strong puncher, but not concussive.

One of the few to knock Ali down which is a claim to fame.

Then if Henry Cooper and Sonny Banks knocked Clay down with single punches, they are a 8 or 9, if Frazier is 7 or 8? Without any FX sounds..

So tarver, lou del valle and johnson are atg punchers at lt heavy as they all floored jones, with two knocking him out for the ten.....?
Dont you think ali was a little before his prime/underdeveloped in those knockdowns senya?
Or is the 88/89/90/91 jones the same as the one from 95-2000?
Bear in mind also, that ali proved himself after this versus many different types of great punchers, and he won both of these fights you mentioned where he got knocked down....
Finally, one guy knocking down a common opponent while another guy does not, does not mean the guy who didnt score the Kd is a lesser puncher, example, hearns could not knock down barkley at middle, wheras duran did,but nobody would say duran is a harder puncher than hearns at middle would they? Same with bowe against holy,as opposed to tyson and lewis who never even floored holy while bowe knocked holy out clean, and so and so forth.....
