How good was Jimmi Bivins when he fought Joe Louis

understand that at his best Jimmy Bivins was very good, but this was latter in his career. Was he still a formidable oppoenentfor Joe Louis or was he just a name with not much left?

Bivins was well past his best but still world class.

A bit like Louis at the time really.

The thing with Bivins though he was periodically able to turn in an absoloutly superb performance post-prime. He was inconsistent in this time frame but he also racked up some really good wins.

As you say ,both were past their sell by date,but Louis retained quite a bit of his "get out of jail "power, whereas Bivins was essentialy a boxer.

Louis was five years older Bivins and had been a professional six years longer.

He was just that much better than Bivins ever was.

If they had met in their primes rather than Louis going off to help the war effort the conclusion of this fight would have been much more decisive with Louis the victor. Just one man's opinion
