What was your question again Ash?
My question was why is boxing not on free to air TV?

As far as I know FOXTEL is not free......why is boxing not on one of the free to air stations like 7, 9 or 10?

ONE HD is yet to show the same numbers as 7, 9 and 10 sport

Because of greedy fighters/promoters.

I do understand that foxtel isn't free, but one hd is,does it matter if they arent showing the same numbers, they have to start somewhere.but all in all its still free to air,Weren't they showing cards every 3mnts or something(bad cards by the way ala billy dibb etc)

Yes they did....but not anymore...terms between the promoter and the broadcaster were too restrictive. Until ONE HD works with promoters I don't think we will see much more boxing in the short term

No I am not! This is absolutely true . I was doing a job for a friend going from pub to clubs. The club i went to had about three times the crowd of normal mundane fight night. I walked around and talking to the crowd ,most didn't know who Geale was. The reason they were there was to see the footballer. ****ing sad!

You would buy it for $10 or go to the event for $20?

Look, I'm not sure what the agenda is for TV boxing, but it's pretty obvious that it's not about competitive boxing.

Across the board, what Producers want is somewhat of a mystery really, but it does have an agenda with some unrelated criteria I think.

I watched some Basketball highlites the other night & when you consider that there are generally the same amount of players as a fight card, the crowds are much the same, or less, even with local TV promotion, but with far less flair than boxings 10-12 at a VIP table that are paying anything up to $250 a stump.

The defining difference seems to be that the knuckle draggers are on a salary & their sponsor have much more clout.
Pay TV shows most, if not all, of their seasonal games.

To me, it's not the sport of boxing that is unwanted, it's the lack of promotional clout.
Boxing is fragmented & does not promote it's sponsors hard enough, or give those sponsors any real value.

We say "Boxing is a business" but when you compare it to basketball, it's a Hot Dog stand compared to McDonalds.

I don't think boxing has anything to do with this SBW shit. He'd get the same nuffies buying if he was in a skipping competition, because of this promotional clout.

Because the priorities of FTA television stations amount to 2 things:

1/ ratings
2/ advertisement revenue

and plainly from the FTA stations point of view boxing doesn't generate enough of either of the above.

dont see how a fight being on PPV can be bad for boxing however if it is on Foxsports it is less bad for boxing, i agree no way it should be a PPV but dont see how it affects boxing as a whole. If it was on Channel 7 Sunday night prime time would that be good or bad for boxing in your Opinion

Correct.....now is that Mundines fault we dont have boxing on FTA ATM?

This is what I cant understand about peoples thoughts regarding BOXA stuffing up the game.....if the sport is ever going to get back on FTA we need the cross over viewers to build enough numbers to flick the FTA switch.

Just like you say the networks dont see boxing as a main stream sport so BOXA and any other promoter are just trying to do whatever they can to make a buck.

Now before you go over old ground I dont like the tickets payment on BOXA cards and that they dont sink some good cash to make a great UC.

Thats what i dont understand, how can it being on PPV be a bad thing for boxing.

Pay Per View means you have an option to buy or not.

My head hurts from reading ppl posts sometimes

Being a PPV and a not so great card, not many will buy......
......So, less people get to see it, which is bad for boxing in general.

If it were on Fox sports, or even FTA, more people will see the fights, better exposure, etc.

Put it this way, I would actually like to see it as I don't mind SBW, but there is no way in hell I'd pay $40 for it.

As you asked someone else earlier, would I pay $10 to see it?
Perhaps........ Maybe.....

$5.... Yes.

So regardless of whether I have the choice or not, the bottom line is, it simply isn't worth the asking price, and that makes it bad for boxing - charging an amount of money for something which isn't worth it.
