Default Sugar Ray Leonard. Best scalps?

Many fighters have defeated great fighters, but often enough these greats are too far past it for the win to be considered a 'great win'

These are Leonard's top 5:

1) Hagler
2) Hearns
3) Duran
4) Benitez
5) Kalule

Who could possibly top this? Or who comes close? Who's is comparable? Or who's top 5 is worthy of mention in this thread?

Depends on how you define it. If weight climbing is taken into account I'd certainly say Pac is up there. Robinson: Gavilan, LaMotta, Basilio, Zivic and Armstrong.

There are probably others once you get in to it. Leonard's top five is certainly up there, but it's not without competition.

Muhammad Ali-

1. Joe Frazier
2. George Foreman
3. Sonny Liston
4. Ken Norton
5. Jerry Quarry (Dunno Im really struggling here someone could fill in 5 better than me)

While Leonards top 5 are brilliant Ali has a great shout here in beating him IMO. 3 wins over top 10 heavweights and guys I would personally would consider more dangerous than them with the exception of Hearns in pure punching power (even thats pretty even). Good question though- the fact that I came ought with one of 'the greatest' shows just how good them wins are.

I don't think any of those guys match Leonard's. Who would you say are Robinson's?

Ali came to mind but i didn't want to list anyone elses. Amazing top 5 but i dont think it is on the same level. How convincing the victories probably goes to Ali, but Leonard's five are the greater fighters. 3 of them without a doubt.

yo Christian Ziege, thanks for posting. What is your thought on these top 5's you've posted? On level with Leonard's, or just worth mentioning?

Leonardīs Top5 are astonishing and mong the best ever (Iīd have a different order), sadly he wasnīt able to assemble a deep record. Awesome fighter, love the first fight with Hearns, Benitez and even his losing effort against Duran.

Certainly worth mentioning. I think all could be discussed. McLarnin has the best case for rivaling Leonardīs. But in the end I like Leonardīs slightly more. P4p-wise I still rank 3 of them higher than Leonard, more depth.

Sam Langford:

Harry Wills
Joe Gans
Tiger Flowers
Stanley Ketchel
Jack Blackburn

****s all over Leonard, and you could possibly, maybe, pick another five names that are in that same ballpark. Additionally, he was basically a blind man when he beat Flowers, so it puts Leonard's "inactive" win over Hagler in its place.

But yeah, I think of the modern ones, Leonard is absolutely amongst the very best.

Awesome top 4, but the quality drops off a lot after that. No disrespect to Kalule, a very decent boxer, but after him we'd have wins over Donnie Lalonde, Davey Boy Green and a washed up Mando Ramos.

I really like the Davey Boy Green fight. I have a really cool photograph of the KO somewhere.

Fitzsimmons top 5 takes some beating

Corbett
Dempsey
Choynski
Gardner
Sharkey

And so far as name fighters go, Jack Johnson has an impressive list, although fails a little on the prime and weight tests:

1. Jeffries
2. Langford
3. McVey
4. Jeanette
5. Ketchell
