Typical Parramatta will no doubt go down the gurgler.

ive heard GI will be a starter for rd 1, if he doesnt start it will only be through precaution

Proposals by the Rugby Football League to expand the World Club Challenge are set to be discussed by the International Federation.

RFL chief executive Nigel Wood re-iterated the call for more clubs to become involved in the annual challenge following Leeds' 26-12 victory over Manly Sea Eagles at Headingley on Friday.

"There's room for more of our leading clubs to take the field against their leading clubs," Wood said.

"We've got four, five, six clubs that are the match of the sides in the NRL.

"I don't think it would be inaccurate to say that the British game has always placed a higher appreciation of international club rugby league than our partners but it is undoubtedly true that constructing a financially viable and workable structure to it is a challenge.

"It is already a pretty crowded fixture list and certainly players in both hemispheres are concerned about potential over playing and we absolutely have to ensure we don't undermine international competition but ostensibly our view is that we need to explore all the options fully.

"The fundamental issue for us is that we believe that international club football has got growth in it.

"You just have to sit down with the Australians and work out what the right formula is. We're pretty sure that they will look at this as an opportunity to expand what is a great part of the rugby league calendar.

"The NRL has recently made some changes to its governance structure and no doubt once they've had a chance to settle in, international club rugby league might be area they may now want to look at."

Wood is keen to bring up the topic at the next meeting of the International Federation and David Gallop, chief executive of the new ARL Commission, said he would listen to any proposal while expressing caution about the logistics of expanding the concept.
Showcasing

"The game on Saturday morning was a reminder that showcasing the premiers of both competitions is an important part of the calendar but an expanded competition is not easy in an already crowded and demanding calendar," Gallop told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"It is something we have discussed before, both with the NRL clubs and the RFL, and we have never completely shut the door on the idea.

"It would need to stack up financially and the extra burden on our players is a major consideration."

Leeds chief executive Gary Hetherington is an advocate of expansion while South Sydney co-owner Russell Crowe outlined a plan 18 months ago for a Champions League-type tournament between the top four clubs from each competition in Las Vegas.

Dubai has also previously been mentioned and Hawaii has also emerged as a potential location.

The American National Rugby League is working with the Hawaii Tourist Authority on a five-year plan to stage top-level matches in Honolulu and AMNRL boss David Niu said hosting the World Club Challenge was among his aims.

I think youre referring to Sam Burgess. Luke is his lesser skilled brother, though is still a handy pick up.

Perhaps George Burgess will get a chance now that Luke is injured. Can you believe we're trying to sign their other brother Tom?!

How many ****ing Burgli do we want?
George Burgess? Tom Burgess?

Who are these Burgess guys? I've never heard of them, are they also local juniors coming through?

What a stupid question, if you're a league supporter you'd know Souths have always had a large local nursery where everyone plays for free, uniforms, registration & insurance all payed for

LOL@Souffs

Look at you, trying to act the elitest cnt, questioning others about their team's local juniors when your pack of scruffy, flea-bitten hasbeens have to rely on poaching families of pommy backpackers to fill out your forward pack

Like I said before, even when LOL@Souffs deigned to lower themselves and tried to buy a premiership-winning team they still sucked balls

Apart from Asotasi, and GI, who are these super stars that we've bought that warrant the "Trying to buy a premiership winning team"" tag?

Dave Taylor was signed up on an incentive based contract while he was playing Queensland Cup.
Issac Luke was signed while he was playing reggies for the dogs and being told that he was too small for first grade.
Sam Burgess is a bit different. He had played a game at international level but was still untrialled at NRL level, and apart from some small interest from the Tigers, noone was looking for his signiture.
