Default ESB Official Voting Thread -- Post Rankings Here!

Here we are! After one very successful round of voting, it's time to conduct this month's Official ESB Rankings.

Voters: PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS VERY CAREFULLY!

This month's vote is a three-pronged process. First are the votes themselves.

1) To fill out your ballot, please list the fighters in descending order, starting with Pound-for-Pound rankings and then proceeding in descending order. So, it's Pound of Pound, Heavyweight, Cruiserweight, etc.

2) Also, please remember to vote for top 10 for Pound for Pound and all divisions down to Bantamweight (118 pounds). For divisions lower than that, please vote for 5 fighters.

3) Feel free to revise and edit your rankings as many times as you like prior to the close of voting. All ESB posters are welcome to give feedback on this thread.

4) You DO NOT have to fill out every slot. Vote for as many divisions and as many fighters as you feel comfortable, but don't feel obligated to fill out all 10 (or 5) for every division.

5) Champions. We will not be voting on Champions. Instead, we have several already in place. Please do not include any Champions in your rankings.

Here's the list:

Cruiserweight: David Haye
Super Middleweight: Joe Calzaghe
Middleweight: Kelly Pavlik
Welterweight: Floyd Mayweather
Junior Welterweight: Ricky Hatton

6) Format. Please pay very close attention to this one. Scoring this thing is a monster, and I have created a spreadsheet that will help ONLY if everyone follows directions. When ranking each division and Pound for Pound (remember that PfP goes first and you move down in weight from there), please stack the fighters on top of each other and do not use any numbers. I'm going to copy and paste your selections.

Here's an example how it should look:

Welterweight:

Fighter A
Fighter B
Fighter C
…..

Please do not use this:

1) Fighter A
2) Fighter B

Please do not use numbers!!!

Also, please try to spell names correctly. Refer to last month's rankings or simply Google a fighter's name if you're unsure. Misspellings were rampant last month.

Part 2 of this month's vote:

The following individuals have applied for admission into the official voting committee:

Danny Ocean
tragicliston
Drew 101
eastSideBoxer
RUSKULL
boydsmith
TAM83

Please send a simple Yes or No answer to two email address: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (Lampley) and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (kg0208.)

We had very poor turnout on this last month. Hopefully, you guys will give word on yes or no.

Part 3 of this month's vote:

There are two special issues that will be settled by the Committee's majority vote.

1) In cases such as this month, when major fights happen at or around the time of a scheduled vote, should we be flexible about scheduling the vote?

Or, conversely, should we keep a hard deadline of first Sunday of the month?

(Personally, I think I would like a hard deadline better. It's one less bit of confusion to deal with, but whatever you guys decide is fine by me.)

2) Should voters on the Committee who fail to vote in either of the first two months be banished from the Committee?

Please include these two answers in your emails to myself and kg0208.

You have through Wednesday morning at 8:00am United States EST to vote. I'll try to turn the scoring around in a few days.

As always, thanks so much to the Committee and ESB community as a whole for the hard work and for making this forum so great! And again, all ESB posters are welcome to offer their feedback and to praise or criticize the various selections. That's part of the fun.

If you are wondering about a list of key fights, many are listed on the Calendar thread. Find it here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

If you need a look at last month's rankings, check here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I second that....was in and out all day today...and I work all day (double shift....:( ) tommorow, but I will put mine in late.

Alot of ponder over the past month and change. Cotto's big win, Shane's big performance, Calzaghe's big win, Casa shitting the bed and getting a gift, etc, etc, etc....

I will put my rankings in by Tuesday, but realize that I have not seen the Cotto-Mosley fight so my rankings will only reflect the outcome, and not the performance of the fighters in the fight.

Lampley, are we allowed to comment on the rankings in this thread or only on the final summed-up rankings?

When do you people get the time to watch all of these fights? I struggle to keep up with two divisions of boxing let alone 16.

I'd agree with you about Carl's Frock. He still looks injured and was pretty bad the other night against (essentially) a shot fighter. There's also no place for Inkin which I find odd. Mundine has proved jack shit. Has lost every time he's fought anyone decent and is blind in one eye. I don't see him as so much of a threat at this weight. Kessler is head and shoulders above everyone else except Calzaghe, Bute has to be considered behind him. A fit Jeff Lacy should come next but admittedly there are question marks about his mental state.

Assuming Pavlik and Taylor make their way to 168 in the near future, that division appears very strong even without Calzaghe. Joe sort of fell into a time between eras (Jones, Toney versus today's guys), but fortunately in his mid-30s he's still had enough to beat the two big challengers in the division.

There would have been bigger names should Calzaghe have been absent in the last 10 years. He's just derailed everyone in the division. You also had Hopkins skipping 168 for 175. It just goes to show that even in his mid 30's, he had enough to thoroughly outclass two undefeated monsters. What would he have done to them in his prime?
