Harold Johnson out-boxed an ageing Ezzard Charles.

How the **** an ageing Bernard Hopkins gonna beat him?

Ah, non-reality of prime Hopkins, missed that.

Still Johnson.

In lieau of a poll it seems it can be summarised that Hopkins is given the edge so far due to his great ring generalship and due to that Johnson's reliance on the textbook could make him a tad predictable.
I didnīt mke a pick yet, just pointing out that an old phrase doesnīt apply here and that Johnsonīs biggest weakness plays right into one of Hopkinsī strength. This is a tough to pick fight. Johnson was much more at home at lhw than Hopkins and naturally bigger, which probably doesnīt play much of a role here. And of course he would have seen many, if not most, tricks Hopkins knows. This is a tough fight too call.

Yeah, it is that simple sometimes.

If you can outbox the greatest LHW ever to box at 180, it's likely that you'll outbox Tarver's conquerer and Calzaghe's victim at 175, and you can take that to the bank if you care to.

I guess Foreman thought something similar when he faced Ali. "Hell, I blew out Frazier who beat Ali, no problem here." Simple. Really.

Non-Reality.

Yes I would go with Johnson. Hopkins at light heavyweight has mostly taken advantage of flawed fighters. Tarver was mentally intimidated and did not fight a smart fight. Pascal fought like he was the one that was 45 years old. I don't think Hopkins belongs in the discussion of great light heavyweights.

There's very, very few middleweights who beat Johnson. Hopkins isnt one of them for me.

Johnson over Hopkins for me. Johnson wasn't one of those dull-witted, clueless types that Hopkins has always feasted on.

Johnson was really hitting his stride around that time though, he got progressively better in each meeting. Fights three and four were only 10 rounders and incredibly close.

Johnson wins this by being flat out better at Light-Heavyweight. If they were both the same weight though it could be a very interesting match up.
