Default Alexander Ustinov

He hasn't fought since late last year.

Anyone have any thoughts or info on what he might be doing in 2011?

K2 should step up his competition IMO.

He should be fighting at one of the Klitchkos undercards, in march or april.

They seemed to have stepped him back down after the Sprott and Barrett fights, he didn't impress in either one of those fights. The thing is, he's not really going to learn any new skills at his age and considering the k1/boxing career he's had to date. He is what he is. K2 may be holding on and positioning him for a title shot as soon as Vitali retires.

This makes sense.

He's known in kick boxing in South Korea (he's fought in Seoul). And my glancing observation of him within the pure boxing sphere is that he's not always thinking a fists only fight during his contests.

On the positive he has some attributes from that background that makes him a very tough opponent to wear down or intimidate. He holds the centre of the ring and isn't often going to be under pressure with the ropes behind him.

Personally, I think K2 should consider the possibility of holding any 'step up' fight against a name opponent in Japan. The Yen/Euro exchange rate has been in Europe's favour over the last 8 months and is likely to hold this position for a while yet.

Ustinov's upper body movement is clumsy, and he doesn't move his hands especially well. On the other hand, his footwork is superb. You never know, Ustinov may surprise us. He's got the size and the legs.

Very unlikely they would do that. It's far more cost effective to have him on Klitschko undercards in Germany or other K2 cards in Ukraine like they have been doing so far.

I dont understand the German based theory that all big eastern european heavyweights are potential world beaters ,its not always true, the Klitschkos are quality big heavyweights and deserve to be where they are, champions of the world, the likes of Ustinov and Valuev are not.
I saw Ustinov box 3 or 4 times and nothing says to me he is better than European level ,he is where he is soley due to his size, his style is poor he seems to me to drift in and out of a fight,he has a tendancy to swing a punch, there is a reason why he doesnt take the likes of Barrett,Vidoz and Sprott out.

K2 probably realise what they have with Ustinov and are always going to match him accordingly

I would have liked to see him step up against better opposition than that, he like a few others seems to just be hanging around, not taking risks in the hope that the Klitschko's and Haye bow out and free up the belts. Hopefully it's just a tune up fight.

Looks like a match just not to let too much rust build up. Just like I said, it's on a K2 Ukrainian card I'd be almost sure he'll be on the Vitali/Adamek undercard, hopefully against somewhat of a name but not a big threat.

He's too old simple as that, had he switched to boxing earlier he might have done something good, he is a big guy and I suppose he always looked abit stiff but he was bloody sharp in kickboxing when he was younger and much faster, vicious with his knees...

I like Ustinov. He's got an iron chin and decent skills. Anybody have any websites they use to keep track of these fighters?
