I'm not sure it's a particularly admirable quality in a fighter to smile while he's got his opponent in serious trouble like that.
I remember Duran sneering and smiling and gloating when he was beating up Davey Moore too. I guess the mean steak in great fighters just comes out like that sometimes. I don't condemn it, but it's not anything I'd celebrate either. |

It should be noted that Johnson used his smile (tinged with sarcasm and insincerity) to intimidate his opponents and throw them o0ff their game.
It might be necesary to look at it in that context as well. |
