Default Anybody know Valuev's amateur record?

I've been curious about this for a while now.

I don't know his record, although Wikipedia claims 23-0, which is rubish because he has lost matches as an amateur! He started at 20 and took 2nd place at the St. Petersburg championships, then, only a year after starting boxing came second at the Russian championships, losing, if I recall correctly, to Alexei Lezin. He was selected to box for Russia at the Goodwill Games, however the comission discovered that he had a proffessional match (his debut fight against John Morton) before turning amateur and was disqualified. In any case, he didn't have much more than around 20 bouts, but stepped up very quickly.

i think it was something like 11-1....the loss was to lezin. and if i remember correctly, that was a hairline close loss.....something like 9-8. that is impressive. at least it hints a serious talent.

Yeah.. thats what I have heard as well. And I know for a fact that he was in some Russias national teams training camps as well. One of my old friend had seen him many years ago. And one of my other friend even saw him against Lezin.
