jorodz,

Don't forget Cleveland Williams. He was dropped from the ratings, only because
of his gun-shot wound in a police altercation.
Other-wise, he probably would have been ranked #4 by Ring.

And Henry Cooper was lurking, not too far from the Top 10 either, as he was
Ranked #12. He had lost to Roger Rischer in November 1964, which dropped him
out of the Top 10.

damn man, your knowledge of 60s heavies is pretty impressive. that info makes his ledger even more solid. i'll admit, the mid 60s heavies weren't nearly the same batch that would come along 5-10 years from then but still pretty impressive. liston, patterson and chuvalo are nothing to sneeze at and williams was still game. what happened to rischer?

Roger Rischer was an American, California Heavyweight.
Good counter-puncher.

In April 1965, he got beaten by Thad Spencer, and then in his next fight
he set some kind of United Kingdom record for American Heavyweights,
by getting KO'd in 0:50 seconds by Brian London.

Whatever happened to Leroy Green? I came across him in the process of finding out who Big Train Lincoln was.

"After Lincoln, Liston worked on Green, a cross between Chubby and Archie Moore; he looks like Moore and moves about as if he is forever hearing the lewd sound of a saxophone. Green likes to boast about his ring savvy, and his moves bear him out."

D T,,

LeRoy Green fell into that 'sparring partner' mentality.
His main claim to fame, while sparring with Sonny Liston in Denver
July-August-September 1964 (pre-training camp for the Ali vs Liston II fight),
was that Sonny never floored him in over 120-rounds of sparring.

He was Sonny Liston's friend from back in the mid-late 1950's.

A little 'meatball' that LeRoy Green,,,,5' 8" and 175 lbs.... Supposedly he would just sit along the ropes,
and let Sonny pound on him for 3-Rounds, every day.

Of course you knew, he was the State of Kansas Light Heavyweight Champion in 1957.

Love this interview before the folley bout. Ali says he'll give every contender a chance to make some money.
