Default Jerry Quarry vs. Bob Foster

Lets say a 1971 bout,,,,,,,,,,

Bob Foster coming in at 185 lbs. and Jerry at 195 lbs.

This is a great match-up.

Jerry would avenge his brother's devastating loss with a big KO of his own. Foster's stalking style wouldn't work so well against a man who could deal with his power and hurt him with counters.

I'm thinking a 4-Round War.

Though one tough little 185 lb. Texas club-fighter, Willis Earls took Jerry 10-Rounds in late-1968,
and had him reeling more than a few times in their bout.

Big bro Jerry would stop Foster in a thriller by 6th round stoppage...

See,,,,,,,,,a Jerry Quarry vs Muhammad Ali served no purpose in 1972.

Jerry Quarry in 1972
vs. Bob Foster
vs. Danny McAlinden
vs. Ken Norton
vs. Mac Foster II

All much better fights, and winnable ones.

Surprised Jerry never went after Bob for what happened to Mike. JQ vs BFoster might've sold better than Ali-BFoster did, but wouldn't have lasted as long. Between Ali II and Frazier II, Jerry spanked Lyle and Shavers. He would've splintered Bob like a matchstick. Bob didn't have the power to hurt world class heavyweights of that caliber. Jerry wouldn't have been mocking his best shots like Muhammad did, just steamrolled him much like Smoke.

Duo,

Yep,,,,,,,,Jerry vs Bob would have been a natural in Las Vegas.

in 1972, Muhammad should have picking on bigger men, his own size,
like Ernie Terrell or Jeff Merritt or Larry Middleton or Henry Clark.

Biggest mistake that day, putting Mike Q. in with Bob Foster.
No need for that fight yet,,,,,,,,

Well, Jerry boy took a '72 rematch with Ali in Las Vegas cuz his payday was good for 1972 heavyweight action... Quarry wanted money all through his career because he never ever cleared enough per mega-fight that would allow him to vacation in the limelight like Gerry Cooney would do a decade later.... In a way, that was criminal to the maxi-pad...

Jerry better steam roll him...because if he gets complacent and lays back...Foster just might cut and outbox him.

Foster had reach and a left jab if need be.

Sure, Bob had those qualities, but he also had a mobility limitation Jack Palance noted during the live broadcast of Mike Quarry's beheading. His right foot was in the bucket, just like Thad Spencer's, and Jerry would have known exactly how to exploit that if the situation called for it. For that reason, I think he actually could lay back and pick Bob apart if this is what the circumstance called for. Foot speed and mobility would be huge advantages for Jerry if he chose to make use of that edge.

MR. B,

Though Jerry liked money, at this point in his career he didn't need that much.
He had a beautiful home in Santa Monica, which he owned outright.
As well as two apartment buildings, a small construction company, a gym,
a small bar, and part owner in a few other enterprises.
And a northern California ranch.

This fight, if anything was easy cash.
Jerry did say,' it's easy work if you can get'

Muhammad Ali..... $500,000
Jerry Quarry........ $175,000

Bob Foster,,,,,,,,,,,$80,000
Mike Quarry,,,,,,,,,,$40,000

Quarry further proves Foster's futility as heavyweight by KO'ing Foster early.

Even for '72 that purse $$$ was merely okay at best.... However, prior to 1980, PPV dollars were not outta control just yet.... So therefore I am not really surprised these purses of '72 seem below par...

Muhammad Ali only got $200,000 for Ken Norton in 1973.

Jerry Quarry got $338,000 for his first fight with Muhammad Ali in 1970.
