Default Joe Louis VS George Foreman

Two of the feared big hitters of their era. Louis obviously has the better record, but who wins when they go head-to-head? Would Foreman's size and experience be a deciding factor, or would Louis's handspeed and durability win the fight for him?

I think that Louis would be all wrong for Foreman.

He would counter him every time he breathed and with that handspeed would make him pay for every wide shot he threw.

On closer review of their records I am changing my pick.

Louis, by mid-late round TKO.

I don't think Louis had good enough defence to beat prime Foreman. He just wasn'y as mobile as someone needs to be, to beat Foreman. The only people I'd pick to beat him, are those who could avoid being hit or if they can't, have the chin to withstand it.

Foreman KO 3.

Interesting how this very matchup comes up every several months. It usually causes a lot of debates that lead to nastyness and some hard battling among posters.

This is my once and for all claim, that I'm not even going to debate with others.

A. Louis had the better legacy

B. Foreman beats him head to head.

This is about as fair as any sane and sound minded person can have it. Foreman's acheivements can't possibly be rated over Louis's 12 year reign, and Louis can't be expected to overcome a man who was an ultimate destroyer during what was arguably the best era in heavyweight history.

Same thing here. Louis doesn't have the nerves or the chin to resist a prime Zaire version of Foreman. Only Ali could've survived that beast.

Fair enough gov.

I don't think either statement is sensible, frankly.

You don't seem to agree with me on much of anything, but that's okay. I made my claim and I'm sticking to it. If you think Foreman had a greater legacy than Louis's 12 year reign, or on the otherhand that Louis would beat Foreman, then be my guest.

Conclusion: I don't give a **** either way.

Have a nice day,

Really? It's been a long time since I've seen this one on here. Maybe I've not been looking hard enough.

I'm with you here squire. I do actually agree with those that say Louis is all wrong for George- that is true, style wise. But not in the chin department, that's why George has a good chance.

I think both could be justified. Louis was more consistent, while Foreman was in more KO fights, meaning he statistically had an edge in power.

EDIT: In his own way, George was consistent, but I think Louis put in the more consistently impressive performances. No-one ever handled Louis easily.

Louis is as yet undefeated. What makes you question his chin?
