A good few.

That happens when the bulk of your fights are against ranked contenders rather than tomato cans

Does it? I can't recall it happening to Monzon, Hagler, Chavez...etc etc.

They were not fighting at heavyweight and even they did not see the kind of action against ranked contenders that Louis did.

Either way arguing that Foreman had a better chin because he was knocked down less frequently is a nonsense comparison.

When i saw the way those links were posted, i knew something fishy was going on!

I think Louis has the style and skills to pick Foreman apart and use his lack of defense. However, Foreman has a game chance because of his size and power combined with the fact that Louis will not stay away from him.

Well if we're going to start talking about the ATG match up as opposed to the one posted (poor form in my view) i'll pick Louis every time. I am almost alone in the world in thinking that Foreman is THE great heavyweigt for Louis. I think Joe beats George inside of three rounds, possibly one.

For once I didnt vote as this is really hard to pick a winner.

On 1 hand I can see louis getting his punches off 1st each time but on the other hand I have difficulty seeing how joe can avoid georges bombs as only ali was able to do effectively due to his unorthodox style.

Joe is anything but unorthodox, he is possibly the most textbook boxer to ever lace them up.
Both have superb chins but if schmelling could dent joe, what could several foreman bombs do & if ali could put gf down for 10, what would louis do.

I really dont know, in a 5 fight series, nobody wins 5-0, thats as close a prediction as I can give, sorry, great great fight tho.

Ok then Ali and Holmes.

ps. Monzon and Hagler cleaned out the division, so enough was seen to suggest they had better chins than Louis (which is obvious). Chavez was rarely troubled by big bangers in a few divisions.

Ali clearly had a truley exceptional chin so there is no shame in not matching him.

Holmes was decked a fair few times himself and even he did not fight the sort of volume of world class oponents that Louis did.

Lets just put Louis's oposition into perspective here.

He started fighting ranked contenders in his first few months as a pro and seldom drope nellow that level of opposition untill he was counted out against Marciano. Even among guys like Monzon and Chavez it is hard to find paralels. There are also other factors to bear in mind like that Monzons style exposed his chin to relativley little risk while Louis did a lot of work on the inside.

Certainly the only heavyweight who even merits comparison with Louis in terms of competition is Ali.

As for Foreman, Louis probably fought more world class oponents before he won the title than Foreman did in his entire career.

Holmes was decked twice as champ. Hardly a 'fair few times'.

I could legitimately take his entire career into acount. When was Louis droped by anybody like Isaac for example?

Louis was never decked untill he fought Max Schmeling at which point he had probably fought more ranked fighters than Foreman did in his first career.
