Default What made joe Frazier special?

Thoughts please! For me it was that he achieved so much for being a little Heavyweight.

he had a great left hook...and being an almost solely one handed fighter doing what he did is amazing

that plus rounds 13 and 14 of ali 3. amongst the bravest things i've ever seen in my life

I donīt think Frazier was little at all. I guess for hws he was average sized. His determination, left hook, stamina, heart, will made him special.

His association with Ali. Nothing else in his career stands out more than the first and last of the trilogy.

The two greatest H/W bouts ever. IMO

Ali survived in the first. Joe almost survived the third bout, as Ali almost succumbed.

He was possibly the greatest inside-fighting heavyweight champion who ever lived. He was utter hell on wheels to keep off, even for "the Greatest". His left hook is one of the single most effective punches in the arsenal of any fighter I've ever seen, weight class regardless. He possessed tremendous determination, very underrated skills. He was among the most committed and devastating body punchers in the division's history. A very underrated right hand that he parried with, hooked to the body with, uppercutted with, and shot straight and crossed with. Yes, he used his left hook more than any punch because it was far and away his best. For some reason, he seems to get penalized for using one of the best weapons in the history of the sport even though it was common sense to capitalize on it as it continued to be massively effective. His defensive movement for such an aggressive fighter also made him an immensely difficult opponent to everyone who wasn't a prime George Foreman and contributed as much as his heart to getting inside with such efficiency. If all he had was the heart and not that skill, he would've been picked apart trying to get inside on Ali with no success.

I'm of the impression that Frazier should be judged more..almost entirely on the weight of his showing in the FOTC...he was never to be that great again, before or since. That was an exceedingly high mark of accomplishment for Frazier.

The most heart I've ever seen in a boxer, ever. The man was built solid like a brick. He had a chin and body that could withstand serious punishment. He was a true pressure swarmer that had excellent headmovement. Let him get inside and he'll tear you up. He epitomizes true Philly boxing. Oh, and one hell of a left hook (his other punches were just as dangerous). Ali had an excellent taste of it when Joe floored him in their first match.

Supposedly the left hook came from a hog that broke his arm as a child on a farm in South Carolina. The bones set in a way that allowed him to sling that sucker like it came straight from Hell.
