Default Does Joe Louis's steroid use affect his legacy?

By now, everyone except the most ardent Louis fans admit that Joe was juicing when he took on Simon and Baer.

My question to the the forum is: Should it matter?

No. It was rife back then. Just look at Conn. A 167 lbs fighter slugging it out with Louis? He was the Pac of his time. And Walcott being that rippped at nearly 40? The forerunner of Holyfield.

Little known fact is that it was Blackburn who started Joe on roids. Blackburn himself was a pioneer user when he beat up much bigger fighters as a pro.

He had to, how else would he have competed with these juiced up "athletes"?

A 5'1" welterweight with a giant, balding head who took on heavyweights?

Please.

He also loaded his gloves.

Back then, gypsum plaster was too valuable a commodity for public consumption and was all hoarded for the war efforts...so he actually had to load his gloves with fruitcake, as it was the cheapest and hardest material available.

Buddy Baer, knocked out in under three minutes? Yeah. 'cake-job.
